You need at least XP Service Pack 2 to run SeaMonkey, SP3 recommended.

Phil

Sorry, it is SP 3. I finally found that it was my firewall that had
gotten messed up since the last time I used this computer.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. My new computer should be here
Tuesday and I will spend the next week getting it set up like I want it.

I think when I've come across that before it's usually been that some
version of Microsoft .NET framework is needed:

  https://www.microsoft.com/net
Though working out which version is needed is not always easy. From what
I recall, if you install a version of .NET it's then able to get far
enough to say which is needed if it wasn't the right one, but if you
don't have any installed it just completely fails.

Or I may be barking up the wrong tree, but worth a shot if no-one else
has any ideas.

Hopefully you can bear Internet Explorer for long enough to download
.NET from the above link ;o)

Mark.

2.6.1 which is almost 3.5 years outdated or 2.26.1 which is more recent?
What version of Firefox?

Found this for Windows [Error message: "The application failed to
initialize properly"](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/217134)

More here [application failed initialize properly
0xc005](http://www.tomshardware.com/s/application+failed+initialize+properly+0xc005/)

Looks like a Windows problem.

Thanks for replying, but I cannot go online to read the links. THAT is
my problem.
