Is there any way to compact offline newsgroups (reduce the size of the mbox file)?

2011-04-03 Thread P.
Hello.

I have installed SeaMonkey v2.0.13 but I cannot find a way to expire
articles (physically reduce the size
of the mbox file in which newsgroups messages are stored) in offline
newsgroups.

Using the "Retention" option does remove articles from view but the
mbox file remains untouched
(and steadily growing in size).

Thanks.

When you download messages for off-line reading, you download them, so
compaction is not possible. The only way you can reduce the size of the
file into which you have downloaded all the newsgroup messages is to
delete the file named for the newsgroup, e.g. if you download the posts
for this group, they are stored in a file called
mozilla.support.seamonkey.dat, so you have to delete this file to remove
the messages, then the next time you download from this group a new,
small, mozilla.support.seamonkey.dat will be created.
