Re: Do you wish to compact all local and offline folders?
Mike C wrote: Every time I delete something from my inbox I get the following. This just started. "Do you wish to compact all local and offline folders to save disk space?" How do I eliminate it?? Out of curiosity, why would you want to do that? Something to remember is that when you delete messages from a folder (including moving from one folder to another), the content of the first folder is not actually physically deleted until compacting is done, and indexes are rebuilt. Even if compacting doesn't save more than a trivial amount of space, regular compacting is one of Seamonkey's standard maintenance processes. While there may be reason to set the thresholds higher or lower, depending on your needs, I don't suggest eliminating altogether. By default, SM/TB store messages in the mbox format (one system file per mail "folder") When a message is deleted, for performance reasons, it is only marked as deleted (exactly as some filesystems do). Compacting means rewriting the whole file after actually removing the deleted messages.
