Re: upgrade Seamonkey 1.1.7 to 2.0.2
Very likely the reason why a part of my mails have been distorted is not the upgrade to 2.0.2 but an unsuccessful partition operation I made a few weeks ago. Klaus Weber schrieb: S. Beaulieu schrieb: Klaus Weber a écrit : I just realized that after the upgrade quite a few local folders have been totally damaged. Either completely empty or any funny symbols. Certainly a high price. Unless you have installed 2.0.x *over* 1.1.x (that is, right in the same folder), there is no reason that should happen as it uses a totally different profile. It simply copies the necessary data from 1.1.x to create a brand new 2.0.x profile Now if you have installed everything over in the same folder, that is a whole other story and a simple case of PEBKAC. S. As I mentioned I moved all the mails to another partition and uninstalled and deleted S 1.1.8, leaving documents and settings untouched. Then I installed 2.0.2 under c:/programs/seamonkey. It is interesting that seemingly only a few mail files are distorted (only the content but not the Re., sender and date) even though they have been imported all in one stroke. Is there a possibility to restore the mails? They become visible when I use a far east coding (e.g. chinese below) Uô?ÀäÿrŸ??J_yëÎ|¯g«[«?'k--f]ó¹?·ó,È«}jpÜ?^(TM)mgôÚ£jÃÅ++né¹[øåßÔ?œ33/4eÎzp.#òâðƧÅvž'ëλ]Ó9éºê^ÍÑ;¬--»ÀÉ??ðîg¹åvsyÌ3/4s2¶®œ?ÔµnÁ®éÍ%ÿT-¯÷ËÞ?«Ù÷ê---E?JÝï*---\6œè.{Ð\g---àp\vÛ?+²M:_zÝ.IêõžÝ²±QR.øí#åí'7?³TÊ̳4;eœs¯biÏÞÝF1/4++/ï+œó?°«æÒéÒ? wŒnw*KLd×àc»|ŽñõAIÑíÅKECJö4etdr»1/4Zh¶0?Õ10/00?]+©6ËûJ^?é¢...,»Sr?|~}N]íjÓñBÛ++®YÕŸ²9f:Wèã7É?ücùûÍ©3/41/4ïÃ---]w'ÇÄ1/2ü1/2!ɱӥú,ðg9~^(TM)Ï_--g0/00ÿšÚÂöÙoó¬ì?wFN²{?1/41/4òÿ8VîÞ1ëË0/00ÂÇ3gœŠ©`ø3t_rj£¥ºM?+?õ?cÇ?¯í¶f|cg8ë8:É«`múZ3¡Æ8`×ïØGœS9uM2I2žðó?åc...êäyfù3/4^(TM) £ôóNQ^ø»+¯/ÿ^(TM)µmÒÝ?)3ßO«ÓÝpe]ÄíØhc6×--...¡·üî0MSf'Û£Ïls{ç.-3sŸf¿3/4k?2µgÏAž?§n×Rµ'-œýÌÚáü?sÙ++3/4\;Ûp[ æì÷ËŠŸ--s÷ÉeÞ^W¹úšœúÎs÷%?ãœ?»ž;YRöxÔÊÜG±ìoæçlªxûŽÙdþ^ß?\?9TŠ7ögùØ©³ÇýaôŒ{«¥ûœN5í?85õÏïïÏv-ìö}Õ;ãÙwÿ-W'vÖÚŸÞå.1Q]++Ý+I¢êɵÙ/ëØ®l-?~$ìWëÚm嶻1/4ÂŽdlxß?-û.3Êéf£3/4Ök',žÇ?óäæí»ó9rÿl.ײ×fš0?yw««N~T÷+åË7ÑKf1/4)':ßfÃ?_Xû-Ÿ?c»Ù?ãOV«lšžP))ù3ºoÿÚÊ»ï÷Héñ1/2ÞtaþÏ?žM+d7D³/ÏzñEÇÛv~ûùb¯Ør...,±§ö++o¯ö¶)/~ýëMeÙö(S...ïµ?Ñ+ßÖMgyŽ^(TM)f3Ïó×¹o---|ë©nÏþ1/2zç3/4 ¶ ÒÞÓYµ6^føP)kéÙyÓsX?Ìs^(TM)cÄÖ[?X?÷2«a_»å¹ŠµµÂ++g?ÙXÙ1/2È}.Õ^(TM)OMgó~[ϳôü¹yüŒ£ W1/4H?Ô¶Ùß?ï1/4Tw--q,ιW«?|j0œâñXÖnªT×ùbÆÇ|QO§Š8OZWsÔBï³Í?+^³W++,.s?Üg^(TM)¥ò?D|Ö{?ðäëfäõ+Þ+ÆÝŠ|Ç{êŽêžŒúK0/00VqÌd?#ê¿ØØß«]ºèÓýÓÕžÊáŽNu'J·$Äe÷cs¯ûØ,䧻d[{(¿Rj?%fµg?à9ã?¢ç*ºÝ?ŠLvW^(TM)vñ1/4Îrë...ðÛÈ4Õþ' O]áÊÚãöí---ÆÑcGݳíux7^§x(7GUÌþ~ì ò$Õ=-=ï--ËîÞ¯xyùí?p¿§×oI]ÖXl8Mš{ç'Æߎ¥!|F¬Êêr{Jl_í]¶2SX2EûÛbå1/4~?窞oxañmÝiï+©Û+ïh~jcög*Ï1/2%)|{ù---:ÖŠM--œä?ìË?++)µ+?ºÓPž¬e»«?ê¢ÖÊ1/2O-vÆfp®õ®\ÐygsžöÔ7V_®1/23/4sš'lÚ¬éSM÷lè--ÀÍzÒþð û¥:¿ì§®6=öÉgÝ©Ç8íÂ8ßÏ+žPïõâÁ®Ï ÑÑìÍ?ý8÷Œù^(TM)²$óN¹=kf§X±He,Lµu`ff.sÍ1/4?0/00ÌÝ?ßÉž«-:ÛsÝ'í]®ñúljŽ=o·ßéÝyÞ~méõ(µ0/00uÓ5N??]{äÔ#ä¯csðÓÄ+Â/ç _žÍšÇumMi÷Á?EÑ);ÿ^1ÏQ.æLòÙ:}[...åà Åk/so3/41/4ñÂ^(TM)??ŽîùÌ·÷LTÈŒÏgI^¡lÛ Rz6Á±¥ÿŒÀé1/4ÝÛE'1/4|ð1/4àÉc¡Ú1/2Ùë/?.X»FŸÇ1uK_3/4rþi0/00?#+©O+z3/4'^5^7ÕnŠÚÞÍŽ*§Xä÷?...Ëú«0ÙÅž+þq1/2ÖrËÔ3/4Ç3/4\ì]°3/4 Ë|ÉOV??ø??Í?úÏ?ã?Âk2çÁ¶ûþ×?/??8éíºG]=¶ +o~W°gòñ?ë0¥¬ ÑÆG39*ïxÐWüGëžúÖÜ€---fÞ¶KÞl±b¥Ñ?«U?ó,3/4Øf{=³|_²û¡ØÂå9gê3[×N?Éo~jm³éà¶u''Õ×ÇKgwüeÞï×÷Úgïî]¿Mò·÷¹g,é^(TM)'Æž?ÀC!1/2qÞÞÞRÁlÎÂI++^(TM)nÝwÍûvùÎÉ'e|f -...--ÇüN=I·X?ä--O--f]ó¹?·ó,È«}jpÜ?^(TM)mgôÚ£jÃÅ++né¹[øåßÔ?œ33/4eÎzp.#òâðƧÅvž'ëλ]Ó9éºê^ÍÑ;¬--»ÀÉ??ðîg¹åvsyÌ3/4s2¶ ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

After a few windows crashes I found it to be a good rule to save data not on the system partition but on a separate partition, better even on a separate hard disk. Re: upgrade Seamonkey 1.1.7 to 2.0.2
Interviewed by CNN on 18/1/2010 14:25, Klaus Weber told the world: After a few windows crashes I found it to be a good rule to save data not on the system partition but on a separate partition, better even on a separate hard disk. Unfortunately I could not find a simple possibility to move also documents settings to another partition. Well, there are a few tools and tutorials out there that claim to do that. However, I never liked the idea of messing with the basic settings of a system post-install -- too much room for it going spectacularly wrong. A better approach, I think, is to do it *during initial setup*. nLite (http://www.nliteos.com) is free and allows you to create a customized XP setup disk, changing a lot of parameters -- including the default location (and even names) of system directories. I did it when I reinstalled XP a few years ago, and it worked without a hitch. If you have Vista, there's a sister project called vLite (http://www.vlite.net) that should be able to do the same. I never personally tested it, though, so I can't give personal experience on this. -- MCBastos This message has been protected with the 2ROT13 algorithm.
