2008-12-22 Thread ST

Hello,

After updating to 1.1.14, when I go to www.wellsfargo.com, the line for
the password entry box is gone! This has never happened with prior

versions. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

The was discussed not too long ago. Just click on View/Use Style/None
and you will have both Username and Password fill boxes. Once logged in,
you should be able to restore the style to Default.

There is nothing in 1.1.14 that makes it worth the hassle, go back to
1.1.13 which doesn't have the problem.

This is because they are using insecure (!) methods to do their
JavaScript on that page, unfortunately.

This does not tell me why it used to work with 1.1.13 and no longer
works with 1.1.14. Could you please elaborate? Thanks

Then would it be cause for concern that:

That's because the issue is due to a change in Gecko 1.8.1.19 so it
only affects SeaMonkey 1.1.14 and Firefox 2.0.0.19, likely this -
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379959

Both Wells Fargo and Gecko are at fault here, while Wells Fargo
certainly shouldn't be using Gecko specific stuff, clearly a change in
Gecko 1.8.1.19 has caused an incompatibility to appear. Users
shouldn't have to use a workaround to access a site properly.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379959
leads to
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470049
which leads to
   https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470461
and I suspect more/older bugs.

Anyway, FWIW I just tested w/1.8.1.21 (SM 1.1.15pre) and the issue
exists there as well.

This has happened before though I believe this particular instance of
it applies to Gecko 1.9 (Firefox 3) -
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387971

The fix in bug 379959 is what caused the regression. Bug 470049 is a
tech evangelism bug to get Wells Fargo to fix their site (which they
should). Bug 470461 has a Gecko 1.8.1.x fix for the issue but hasn't
landed yet, once it lands then check the following nightly build.

This does not tell me why it used to work with 1.1.13 and no longer

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470049 contains the story,
basically.

What happens is that they deliver a part of the login page through a
third-party page they don't control, which we block because it's an
insecure thing to do and could possibly lead to password hijacking and
such things. In Firefox 3 and SeaMonkey 2 we allow such content to be
loaded by applying additional checks to make sure it cannot be misused,
but that needs Gecko to use even more code that the developers didn't
want to introduce into the stable version used by Firefox 2 and
SeaMonkey 1.1.x.

It's IMHO a bug of Wells Fargo to load parts of their login page through
the third-party service of Akamai which they can not control and so
don't even know for sure what people see on the login page.

Any idea what they're trying to accomplish by using:

and the Akamai XBL stuff ? It seems like they shouldn't need the span
and XBL stuff at all.

Wells Fargo Won't Accept New Password

2015-06-24 Thread njoracle
Win 7 SM 2.33.1

Changed my password at Wells Fargo. Logged off and then logged in.
Entered new password and SM said "Remember?" and I said yes. Wells Fargo
would not accept the new password. Went to Password Manager and verified
that SM had stored the new password. It had. The only way to login was
to delete all cookies associated with Wells Fargo. After that,
everything worked okay.

Also changed passwords on TD banking without the problem described above.

Had no problem with Wells Fargo using IE 11, FireFox or Google

I've never had that problem with WF, but perhaps that's because I never
store bank passwords on my computer... a word to the wise.

I do accept their cookies, of course -- can't log in without them. But
since I'm paranoid, I routinely clear them the moment I log out.
