Irishman, your SeaMonkey (and Thunderbird) received emails are stored in
a file named "inbox" (without the quotes) and an index file, called
inbox.msf, is created to locate each individual email in the inbox file.

In SeaMonkey, have a look at Edit->Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings,
and select "Server Settings" on your mail account. At the bottom of that
screen is shown your "Local Directory".

Now totally close your SeaMonkey and do a Windows "Find Files and
Folders" looking for "inbox" (without the quotes). If you find any more
inboxs, rename them inbox1, inbox2, etc, and move them into your SM mail
folder at the same level as your current inbox. There is no need to move
the other inbox.msf files, they are re-created if/when needed.

Open SM and see if you missing emails are in these folders.

Do similar for your sent file if they've disappeared as well.

HTH
