Have they fixed the bug in File Bookmark that is present in 2.40? This definitely looks like a problem with your newsreader, as it starts a connection without authenticating, tries to post and gets an error and then properly authenticates, all on the same connection. Also, please note that it keeps the connection open for 20 seconds despite the error and then makes up its mind to use authentication.
