I understood Ronnie would like to delete all unread emails..
Which I find very strange.

I do not want a filter to delete some e-mails, because I will be afraid 
that it also deletes emails I would like to read.


I have filters to move emails to another map (e.g. newsletters).
And yes sometimes an email moves to that map, I did not want to move to 
that map.

I understood Ronnie would like to delete all unread emails..
Which I find very strange.

Not if you configure it to not run when getting mail. Anyway, the
question was not if it's a reasonable thing to do, just if it's possible.

Won't that delete all new incoming messages before you have a chance to 
read them? Kinda destroys the purpose of having email...

In the filter rules slect "Status" "isn't" "read". Then "Delete message"
as action.

Give this a try:
if the subject doesn't contain xyz then delete.
