Re: [Sursound] Proms 2016 in Surround

2016-07-15 Thread Marc Lavallée
In the FAQ:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/taster/projects/proms-surround-sound/inside-story
There's a link to a test player:
http://rdmedia.bbc.co.uk/proms/surroundtest.html

On Linux, Chrome works as expected (with 4 distinct channels), but
Firefox still mixes the 4 channels in stereo. So I would suggest to
verify the channels using the test player before listening to the live
streams. The Opera browser works because it is based on Chrome. The BBC
"experimental surround player" (is it the same since 2014?) could warn
users of non-Chrome based browsers.

It's curious hearing nearly all the applause from the front in a
supposed "surround" balance.

Unlike in previous years, going to the link presents a working
4-channel feed from my default browser (Opera) with no additional
preparation required. As before, their levels for the rear speakers
seem to me to be surprisingly low.

Re: [Sursound] Oktava A-format microphone?

2016-07-15 Thread Henk I Spook
Hi,

We got a test model "VR mic" from Sennheiser. We have used it in a few
'live' situations now and like it alot. I am planning for a proper
A/B/C test in a controlled environment soon. We have a tetra mic and
probably a sound field mic as well. We have a good sounding 100m2 live room
where we can do the test. I am open to suggestions for a good test setup.
We have a few zoom H8 recorders that can be used as pre-s for the mics. If
there are people in the Amsterdam area with other surround mics we can team
up and include these as well. What would be interesting signals to record?
And in what setting? All suggestions are welcome

cheers, Henk
