RE: [biofuel] 55 degs

2001-11-19 Thread M Rolan

H heat it on my kitchen, until it start to be hot enough, then i pour it on
my processor (just a whashing machine pump on a plastic wastepaper basket)
and the methoxide, after 1 hour of mixing i turn off the pump and i let it
settle.

I don't use any other heating method. You must be aware of not to heat it
too much, (over 70¼C) or the methanol will evaporate.

share your results ;)

Hi,

My name is Christian and I«m quite new to this group. I«m currently
finishing Environmental Engineering and to graduate, I must prepare a sort
of thesis (actually, it«s not a thesis... it«s more of a thorough project).

Anyway, I was thinking of preparing biodiesel to run it on the lab«s diesel
engine (a small boat outboard... not much HP) and eventually test NOx and CO
emissions.

So the question is, in the two stage process, are the 55 ¼C essential, or
can the temperature be roughly a bit more. Actually, for my batch low-volume
process, I was thinking of heating the stew with a closed circuit of water
in copper pipes or something, heated by a fish-tank water heater and pumped
by a small aquarium water pump. Does anyone think this is feasible? What are
the ordinary "home methods" of heating the mixture at 55 degs for over an
hour? Does the initial heating of the brew (until it reaches the 55 ¼C)
count as time?

Thanx.

Christian

Hello Anton

Journey to Forever has a whole big page on the many uses of glycerin.
http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_glycerin.html

We don't discuss "disposal", no - don't agree with the concept. We've
discussed uses here on this list previously. Here's a new one on me,
from the Distillers list: "Glycerine is used to artificially 'age'
your spirit and give it a little more mouthfeel and smoothness.
Really good for liqueurs in combination with the sugar syrup. This
and other smoothing/aging tricks are on Tony's website under
'Flavouring & Aging'."

That's Tony Ackland's excellent site:
http://www.homedistiller.org

If you're killing your compost, add more "browns" (aka "dries"),
now's the time for autumn leaves. No good for red worms until it's
been composted first, by the way (kills 'em).

Hi keith:
I don't know that person, and the mail with the virus was a reply to a mail
sended by me to the group and to no one else, this person could be a member
of the group with several e-mail accounts on his email reader, (if you put
that name on google.com and you look on his home page you can find other
email address), if you try to send a email to this person you will recive a
reply to your e-mail with the virus attached on it.

i don't like virus warnings either, but this is a real one and from here, i
have last version of trend Officescan on my computer and it warned me at the
moment the virus came.

happy biofueling!!

If you're using the methoxide process, do not use equipment that is not
"intrinsically safe for use in potentially explosive atmosheres".

washing machine motors have carbon brushes on a commutator which are very
efficient spark generators
Solenoid valves - sealed against explosive methanol vapours?
water pump - ditto plus pressure
thermostat - and if it fails?
static protection - you have none

And so it goes on. None of this addresses the toxicity of methanol nor the
environmental implications of waste water, VOC emissions or glycerol
disposal.

The point is that you cannot possibly get anything but plain ascii text
email from the biofuels list -- no html email, no attachments -- therefore
you cannot get a virus from the list. You can, however, get a virus from
someone on the list who sends to you privately,
offlist, an html email. But unsubscribing from this list to avoid viruses is
silly.
And note that not all lists have html and attachments turned off --- for
those lists I would change my subsription to digest only, which also gets
rid of html and attachments.

Well, the answer is pretty simple -- stop using those virus magnets,
and you'll solve 99% of the virus problem. But even if you are using them,
you still can't get a virus from biofuels propagated email.

none of the three messages exists, false names, false subjects. And,

best solution an updated antivirus

other solution:

disable the preview option on outlook express and outlook, when arrives a
mail with an attachment click it with the right button (not left one) and
select options, then you can see on the header the name of the file
attached, if it is a .com, .exe, .pif, .scr or something you are not waiting
for, delete it without opening it

RE: ATTENTION!!!! - was Re: [biofuel] ethanol; virus found on thi s email attachment

2001-12-12 Thread M Rolan

Hi keith

don't you remember this messagge?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/biofuel/message/9886

true, the group does not allow to attach files, but if you post a message to
the group and is sent to someone infected, the virus takes your address from
that message and you will recive a message not necesarely with the same
email address that person is registered on the group with the virus attached
on it

-that virus cames from the group?
not straight from the group

-that virus uses the group?
yes, it takes email addreses from people posting on it to send them infected
messages with the same subject lines that real messages from the group are
using.

-what can we do?
to use an updated antivirus, not opening messages with attached files, or to
read this group from the web.

sorry for this off-topic message, sorry to anyone tired of reading about
viruses on this group.

regards to every one

Manolo

RE: [biofuel] SVO/WVO conversion - VEG-Therm-

2001-12-12 Thread M Rolan

just an idea:

i was thinking on a vegoil two tanks conversion using the exhaust to heat
vegoil. if we put the vegoil tank on the rear part of the car and it goes to
the engine on a copper pipe paralel to the exhaust pipe, close enough to be
heated and far enough to not to reach too hight temperatures, and to use the
return line with heated vegoil runing close to the incoming line on the
oposite side of the exaust to heat the other side, perhaps this way we can
get a simple conversion, or perhaps i've been drinking too much coffe and i
need to sleep a bit more and not to think so much.

anyone with more experience can tell me if this is possible?

thanks in advance

No! It got your address from the address book of somebody who
received your message.

[M Rolan]
not necessary to be on the address book, when a infected computer receives a
mail from the group, the virus takes the email address from the message

It will be a false message, with a false title claiming it came from
the Biofuels list, and a false sender's address, quite possibly of
someone who isn't even a list member - but it WON'T have been sent to
you by the list. Obviously, as you're on Web-only.
[M Rolan]

yes, is a member but if someone has several pop email accounts configured on
his outlook, the virus can use a diferent one than the one that person is
suscribed to the group, if you try to send a message to the email addres of
that person you will recive your message answered with the virus atached

i promise not to send any more message on the group about this topic, if
someone wants more information can look on www.antivirus.com
<http://www.antivirus.com>

and search for "badtrans"

sorry

Hello all
I have lurking and learning from this list as well as several others.
I've noticed a widespread need for a fairly accurate scale.
I would appreciate your trying this one that I thought it up many years ago
to weigh my bicycle, parts and touring gear. I use it
for soap making, experimenting with stoves as well as other things:
http://www.willinet.net/~beckdb/scale.htm

I have pictures as well as the Excel file that drives it on my isp.
It is quite simple, like me, but can be quite accurate over a broad range of
weights.
The best part is it shouldn't cost much to make.

2002-01-15 Thread M Rolan

thanks t_watchornnz , sounds good but would like you to explain me a little
better, my english is not very good and i am a little slow to understand.

How do you put the pipe on the 10l tin? could you please post some schema or
photo?, thanks very much, i think is a great idea.

yesterday i tried using a plastic cap of a 5l water bottle with a hole in
the middle, an old fridge compressor, ( those that Dana likes so much ;-) ),
and a rubber pipe from the compressor to the hole in the cap.

i fixed the cap to be horizontal with the top of the tap down, so it could
hold some wvo, i poured some wvo and when it started to atomize it, i put
fire on it, and a nice flame fegan to blow.

this week i will try with some tins and a copper pipe.

Hi,
I've been using a crude but effective burner to heat oil to get rid
of water. Can heat 150 litre to 130 degC in just over an hour. Am
using a 200L drum on a stand to hold the oil. I place a 10L tin under
this, which I fill about 1/3 to 1/2 with WVO (mainly the thick
rubbishy stuff along with glycrine from test bachs etc). Into this I
also bury a couple of old rages. Into the top of this I have a pipe
(about 40mm)in which I blow air via a heat gun blower or old vacum
cleaner. I us bio-d soked paper to light. The fire's abit sooty, but
it roars.
I have tried just with glycrine, but it doesn't have anywhere asmuch
heat out put.

Regards

I will try another word picture, as I not to fast on the drawings.

The 40mm pipe which I feed the air through comes across from the side
above the fuel tin and is elbowed down into the tin. I have it about
50mm above the oil. I support the pipe on the stand the hold the oil
to be heated.
Hope this helps.

opening a valve on the air circuit that lets the air came out the circuit,
it reduces the air presure on the burner and reduce the flame, i want to try

Very nice Manolo. Nice and simple. Thanks for translating it. Would
you be able to regulate the flame, and thus the temperature of the
WVO being dried, by putting a rheostat on the blower? Or maybe just
by putting a simple valve on the air-inlet pipe somewhere to reduce
the air pressure?

RE: [biofuel] Who Owns The Sky?

2002-01-17 Thread M Rolan

the problem here that the sky puluted is not only owned by us citizens, and
the more afected by climate change are the citizens far awey the us, like
the ones afected by the mitch, or the starvation, on central america.

and still other problem, big american enterprises goes to contaminate
outside their bounderies where the polution and security laws are weak

Who Owns The Sky?
We All Do -- And Polluters Should Pay Us For Dumping There
by Ann Hancock
The "Sky Trust" is a free-market approach to reducing air pollution
that has an interesting dividend: annual payments to all U.S. citizens.
Such 'sky rent' could put a $1,000 check in your pocket each year.

TOMPAINE.com -
Who Owns The Sky?
We All Do -- And Polluters Should Pay Us For Dumping There

Ann Hancock is a sustainability educator who lives in Sonoma County,
north of San Francisco.

Steven Rosenfeld produced this piece.

The White House doesn't need Enron to show its true loyalties on
energy. Whatever's best for energy companies' profits suits their
definition of public policy. How else to explain the recent Bush
proposal rolling back clean air standards by 30 years? Or its
announcement that new or expanding power plants needn't install the
latest anti-air pollution devices? It's payback time for Bush's
energy friends and funders, plain and simple.

Such favoritism is bad from an environmental perspective. It's also
bad economics. But it is possible to reduce air pollution using the
marketplace. It is possible for private companies to follow their
profit-making instincts and still make money while reducing global
warming emissions. How is that, you might ask? It's all laid out in a
brilliant book by Peter Barnes titled Who Owns The Sky, describing an
idea called the Sky Trust.

Who owns the sky? The answer is obvious. It's everybody. In public
policy terms, it's called "public trust," based on a legal doctrine
that declares that the state holds certain resources in trust for its
citizens -- like national parks. With this as a starting point,
Barnes, the founder of Working Assets, suggests that we consider
carbon emissions just like any other commodity. Polluters such as
power plants would pay to discharge into the sky, similar to the
effective system now used to limit U.S. sulfur emissions. Polluters
could use alternative technologies and pay less, or not at all. And
where would the money go that's been collected? Into an account
that's returned to citizens, the Sky Trust.

This notion is not far-fetched. In Alaska, where oil companies have
been drilling on state and federal lands -- public lands -- a similar
dividend accrues to residents. Last year the Alaska Permanent Fund
paid citizens about $2,000 each. What Alaskans do with oil, Americans
can do with sky. Annual sky rent could equal about $386 billion,
according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, enough for
each American to receive a $1,000 check every year.

Congressional analysts like the Sky Trust idea, too. The
Congressional Budget Office studied various approaches for reducing
greenhouse gases, and concluded that the Sky Trust's cap-and-trade
approach is the best. Every year Congress would establish a limit on
the amount of allowable greenhouse gas, and the Sky Trust would
auction off the rights to pollute. As the allowable emissions were
gradually reduced, the price would go up, and so would each
American's annual dividend.

And just in case anyone needs reminding, news about climate change is
very troubling. Last decade was the warmest on record. Sea levels
rose about 8 to 12 inches during the last century, recently forcing
thousands of residents of Tuvalu, a tiny spot in the Pacific Ocean,
to leave their island home. To avert the worst of global warming,
predominant scientific opinion says that we must reduce greenhouse
gas emissions worldwide by at least 60 percent. Compare this figure
with the 5.2 percent cut called for in the Kyoto Treaty signed two
months ago by 180 nations, every major nation except the United
States. Clearly, a new approach is badly needed.

Barnes is setting up a turnkey Sky Trust complete with board of
directors, ready for the public, Congress, and the President to
implement. All Congress must do is pass a law creating the Sky Trust.

America would curb its fossil fuel appetite. Those who use the most
would pay, and those who use the least would be rewarded. Our
children's children would inherit a habitable Earth. The Sky Trust
reflects American capitalism at its finest.

There«s a very good report on BD, specially focusing on the economics and
efficiencies in tractor engines in Argentina, published by Monsanto and the
Agriculture Secretary of Argentina at:

www.sagpya.mecon.gov.ar/0-0/index/institucional/biodiesel/Master.pdf

It«s 80+ pages long, and also covers areas such as energies in the global
market, oils & prices, taxes, emissions, etc etc. Much of it speaks of these
variables in Argentina, but if you can read spanish, you might as well give
it a go. It seems quite extense.

Regards,

Christian

Concepto impositivo:
Impuestos Especiales - Impuesto sobre hidrocarburos

Normativa aplicable
Ley 38/1992 arts. 46-2, 51-3
