[biofuel] Re: WVO filtration
OK, in a sudden surge of unexplained brain activity, I figured that what I needed to do was rip the paper out of the filter, wrap the outside of the filter with ordinary window screen, and seal it with silicone. All done with loose bits I had laying about. Result: one cheap, washable, reusable WVO pre-filter. After processing, I'll use the finer diesel oil filter to get the small stuff out. --- In biofuel@yahoogroups.com, "maimino1984" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I haven't had much luck with a similiar setup - I tried using an Omni > Wholehouse water filter with a 20 mic pleated paper filter and > unheated WVO would not move through it. I haven't had much luck with a similiar setup - I tried using an Omni Wholehouse water filter with a 20 mic pleated paper filter and unheated WVO would not move through it. I'm assuming that the oil must be heated first. However, not sure if the filter housing can take any signifiacnt temperatures. --- In biofuel@yahoogroups.com, "Grant Simpson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi ,I have used a 10"clear water filter housing set with 20 & 5 micron > pleated filters inside ,you will need a small 12 or 24 volt pump to move it > around . just a suggestion , i have found these far less expensive than > using a racor filter .They last longer too . > If you have trouble finding a cheap set of filters & pump , i can help you > there too . > Best Regards > Grant Simpson > > > >From: Alan Petrillo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Reply-To: biofuel@yahoogroups.com > >To: biofuel@yahoogroups.com > >Subject: [biofuel] WVO filtration > >Date: Sat, 04 Oct 2003 12:41:27 -0400 > > > >Does anyone have any suggestions for a small portable filter set for > >filtering WVO into my fuel tank? > > > > > >TIA, > >AP > > > > _ > Gaming galore at http://xtramsn.co.nz/gaming ! [biofuel] Re: Permits required to collect used vegetable oil?
Just got off the phone with the district manager of PA's DEP. I do NOT need a permit to pickup or haul WVO because I'm processing it, i.e., using it as an ingredient. Because I'm using it as an ingredient in a process, it is no longer considered residual waste. If I was disposing of it, that would be an entirely different matter - I'd need a transportation placard on my truck and a permit to collect, all of which would add up to 10's of thousands of dollars initially, then thousands of dollars a year after that - no kidding!!! No wonder the guy was trying to spread rumors - he's got a big bill to pay just to stay in business. --- In biofuel@yahoogroups.com, "Appal Energy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > The most likely agency to govern waste grease is a county health department. > Yet most don't even have ordinances that regulate what type of > container/dumpster/barrel must be used and don't address grease matters at > all unless there is a complaint. > > Most of the haulers want people to believe anything as long as it keeps > their mits off the grease supply. > > Nobody ever said that rendering was a pretty business, much less principled > or ethical. > > Todd Swearingen > > - Original Message - > From: "maimino1984" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: > Sent: Monday, September 29, 2003 2:54 PM > Subject: [biofuel] Permits required to collect used vegetable oil? > > > > One of the taverns I collect used oil from told me that they were > > recently told that anyone collecting their used oil had to have a > > permit. [biofuel] Permits required to collect used vegetable oil?
One of the taverns I collect used oil from told me that they were recently told that anyone collecting their used oil had to have a permit. This "helpful" person then offered to take their oil, for a fee. Since I take it for free, the owner told the guy to take a hike. However, this got me wondering. Does any know if their state requires such a permit. Anyone from Pennsylvania that knows if PA requires such a permit? I just spent a significant amout of "quality time" at Pennsylvania's DEP website and could find nothing about used fryer oil, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Yahoo! [biofuel] Re: sulfuric acid in two-stage method
Hi. Thank you for the response. Actually, I got the information on testing the sulfuric acid on this forum - check message #26046, in which Juan Boveda gives the specific densities for various concentrations of sulfuric acid. I got a hydrometer on eBay. Also, by way of correction, I meant to say "foolproof method" below instead of "two stage method." Thanks! --- In biofuel@yahoogroups.com, "girl_mark_fire" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Yes, it worked in my experience with something similar. [biofuel] sulfuric acid in two-stage method
I got some sulfuric acid to use in the two-stage method. The method calls for 95% sulfuric. I measured the specific density of the acid I purchased at 1.825 Kg/litre, which puts it somewhere between 91% and 96%. Is it alright to use this acid, adjusting the amount used to compensate for the lower concentration, or should I keep looking? Thanks. Yahoo! Thanks for pointing out Thomas Register. I found a company that will ship H3SO4 to me at a reasonable price. [biofuel] Re: WVO - Congealed OK?
It's used fryer oil - they had no place to dispose of it, so for the past 5 years they stowed it in their basement. I came along mooching for oil and a deal was made. Most of the oil is just plain old brown WVO - the usual stuff. The white congealed stuff on the bottom of the container made me wonder if I should just pour off the liquid oil and dispose of the congealed stuff. --- In biofuel@yahoogroups.com, "Appal Energy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > You won't know until you try to use it. > > 300 gallons in their basement? [biofuel] WVO - Congealed OK?
A local resturant just gave me about 300 gallons of WVO that they cleaned out of their basement. It's in 5 gallon containers. I've noticed that in many of the containers, some of the oil has settled into a congealed white state, about the consistency of mayonaise. Question: should I use the congealed oil to make biodiesel or would it be better to not use it? Thanks! Mike Yahoo! Groups Sponsor -~--> Buy No Snore & Get a Good Night's Sleep.
