OPEL 24 hour endurance and econemy run in november '03 averaged139.8 mph for 24 hours and got up to 159.2 mph for a while ,acheving 92.6 mpg [ final lap took 49 minutes !] DECEMBER '03 mercedes,and now dodge sprinter is a huge van weighing 5381 lb.,but got 30 mpg average from this high-topped bus. These are much simpler units than the new hybrids.Repair and availiability of parts frighten me of hybrids [i was a long-time auto parts whiz kid].Manufactors love to complicate cars that they do not want to build. More power to us folks who strive for independence!
