Once yet again, you cannot get a virus from this group. You can get a
virus from a member of this group, but with this virus you won't know
who sent it. It takes names from the afflicted address book and fakes
it. The sender's address is counterfeit. The message title is also
counterfeit. The [biofuel] tag in the title is also counterfeit. It
came to you direct, not sent by the list. Mailing the sender is
probably useless because he probably did not send it. As it happens,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a member of the list. In other cases, the
alleged senders haven't even been list members.

So, panic if you like, unsubscribe, change your profile to Web-only
or whatever, but it won't help. It's got nothing to do with the list.

If you use virus-prone software, it's up to you to keep it up to date
with patches or whatever and to keep your anti-virus gear up to date
as well.

[biofuel] VIRUS ALERT

2001-12-22 Thread Larry D. Barr

I've received two emails from Rick Lubrick, one through the email link on my
site and the other through this group. Both contained the "Badtrans W32" virus.
Fortunately, Norton caught it and I think I'm OK. I really hope I'm OK. I don't
back up as often as I should.

Rick's email address was given as: [EMAIL PROTECTED], but when I attempted to
reply and advise him of the problem the address was rejected as "unknown
recipient."

The message I got through this group was "Re: Engine Problem" which is a
message I sent to Adrian about his Rover problems. Just wanted to give
everybody a heads up on this. If Rick is actually getting messages from our
group, hopefully he'll be able to get the virus out of his computer.

Merry Christmas,
Larry
