[biofuel] biodiesel standard...

2001-06-06 Thread Jan Sur—wka

Hi to all,

Thank you Ray Hough for very good reference for comparing BD standard.
The table presented is really very informative.

I have another quality question:

How can we assure the almost 100% repeatability of the quality biodiesel in
each batch

If the biodiesel conforms to this standard in can be commonly traded in
Germany.
I suppose that it is quality of biodiesel standard.

Does anyone know how or where to get this standard ?
Maybe there exist the American/English or Australian standard on biodiesel - I
would prefer it
since I do not speak German.

Can anyone help me, please ?

bio diesel came up to BS EN590 standard. Does anyone know what this is .

Trading standards only comes into it, in UK, when you make a claim to
something or when complying with law.
Does not apply at present, provided you do not make false claims.

this is a bit old, but might get you started:

ASTM Ballot and Support FY99 Final Report
 Executive Summary

FY99 was an extremely productive year in the area of ASTM Standards. The
objectives and deliverables of the project have been met, and the issuance
of the provisional standard for biodiesel is being leveraged throughout
the
 entire biodiesel industry.

The objectives of the FY99 ASTM program were to secure the precision and
bias statements in preparation for the full standard ballot, and to manage
the data requirements necessary to facilitate the balloting process to
obtain the provisional American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM)
biodiesel standard. The overall project was split into two separate
projects
for funding purposes, with the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion
Council funding the Precision and Bias effort under Project MN 951, and
the
United Soybean Board funding the Ballot Support effort under USB 9374-2.

All the precision and bias information necessary for the full standard
ballot has either been secured or is in the process of being secured
through
the various ASTM committees. In December of 1998 ASTM Subcommittee D02.E
on
Burner, Diesel, and Gas Turbine Fuels approved the provisional
specification
for biodiesel. The specification was provided a number by ASTM, ASTM PS
121,
and is now available from ASTM as a stand-alone standard from their web
 site, www.astm.org.

The official standard publication date for ASTM PS 121 is July 27, 1999.
PS
121 is valid for two years while the data needed for the full standard is
being developed. All of the data necessary for the full standard is either
completed or is on track to achieve the full standard within the allotted
two year time frame, and funding has been put into place with USB for ASTM
 efforts in fiscal year 2000.

The ASTM area is an excellent example of the National Biodiesel Board's
role
in coordinating and managing an overall effort from multiple funding
organizations to accomplish an end goal-one which could only be achieved
through combining the efforts and funding of several organizations. In
addition to the funding provided for the FY99 efforts from Minnesota and
USB
described here, arrangements were made for additional funding to be
provided
by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to begin the biodiesel
stability work with Southwest Research. NREL and the Illinois Soybean
Checkoff Board are also funding the continued stability efforts in FY00,
while South Dakota Soybean Council is funding the required gas
chromatography testing. Without the coordinated funding for the entire
effort, it would not be possible to have made the significant
 accomplishments achieved in this area.

ASTM activities and results have also provided some special opportunities
for additional public education and outreach. Due to the biodiesel
visibility within ASTM, several articles were published regarding
biodiesel
throughout the year and a biodiesel section was included in a major
publication by Chevron, Technical Review-Diesel Fuels. A press release
regarding PS 121's availability on the ASTM web site and subsequent letter
from ASTM D2 Chairman David Smith recommending PS 121's adoption to each
State was also issued during the year, which was picked up by several
 publications.
