[svg-developers] Seeking Technology Development Strategy

2004-09-22 Thread douglas_leip

I am relatively new to SVG, and am seeking advice concerning the
technology for a development project.

1. Basic outlay of project:
Web deliverable user interactive data display for genetic
stuff. Expected Users will have T1 or better connection.

Basic Existing Skill set:
Unfortunately? very familiar with ECMA/Javascript.
Familiar with core Java, JSPs, Applets, etc.
Perl cgi HTML Template...
HTML, XML, XHTML.

Played around with S.P.A.R.K. and looked at Kevin Lindsey's pages...
Have not had much success with accessing DOM outside of an svg
document from script within it.

Briefly looked at Batik, but have also read complaints about user
interactivity. Have a curiosity about javaws, but no experience.

Do any of you wise folks have some advice for a technology approach?

And is it true that Mozilla and FireFox svg implementations are hosed?

Here is a slapped-together generic html preview containing about 10%
of proposed functions:

This needs to work more or less out of the box. 'I' am the technical
support staff.

Well, that is good to hear.
