Re: [svg-developers] Adobe AIR drops SVG

2010-11-11 Thread Guy Morton
I think Adobe are strategising themselves out of the game. They are fiddling
while Rome burns.

If you haven't already, look at Titanium...write once, deploy EVERYWHERE using
WebKit as your runtime engine.

And by "everywhere" I mean Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android AND you can deploy
your code as a native web app.

Doug Schepers makes the good point that their statement could mean that
"we decided early on not to support SVG, even though we had the WebKit code,
because we thought there wasn't much interest..."

"... but now people have been asking for it more, so we are looking into
supporting it in a future release."

I suspect there are a lot of folks at Adobe who wish they had never heard of
SVG since they have to keep changing their mind about whether or not they like
it!

I predict exactly one more change of mind on the subject and that it will be
rather far-reaching.

On the SVG Android issue - Opera for Android was apparently released today (as
Chaals or someone said it would be):

2010-11-10 Thread Guy Morton
For out of browser apps built with open web technologies look at Titanium.

http://www.appcelerator.com/

Both AIR and Titanium use WebKit to render your content, but Titanium doesn't
strip out competing technologies, because the developers don't OWN any
competing technologies.

Titanium is free and open source.

Who needs AIR?

Being in SVG conference in Paris on September 2010 it was confirmed that my SVG
clips which I did in 2006 (wonderries.mobi) does yet not play right with
WebKit.

I wonder why my clips was playing right on Nokia devices which are using
WebKit?

In 2006 Nokia was using Real player which included Adobe SVG code. Then my
clips
played only when going to the full screen mode.

Maybe it comes from there? Also Nokia QT toolkit specifies SVG library
separately from WebKit functions.
