Betreff: [swinog] our zimbra webmail server is on the swisscom dns blacklist ...

Hi All

We are running a zimbra web mail server https://zimbox.ch for our customers.
Yesterday afternoon swisscom has put its IP (46.140.183.201) on their DNS
blacklist
(https://www.swisscom.ch/de/res/hilfe/internet/internetguard/url-checker.html).
Since the thing is running https, this leads to people with swisscom internet
access to get some cryptic error message about SSL problems from their browser
when they want to read their mail.

No, the server is not hacked, and we are running the latest version of zimbra
web mail on it.

We have filled in the swisscoms 'de-blacklisting' web form but nothing has
happened yet. We also called the swisscom kmu-hotline, but no, sorry we can not
do anything.

Any advice ? For now we are advising our customers to set their dns server in
their computers to 8.8.8.8 ...

By the light of day, swisscom is directly damaging our business with this ...

cheers
tobi (angry)

Re: [swinog] Rack mounting Switch/Routers in Cold and Hot Isle DC

2016-08-05 Diskussionsfäden Robert.Guentensperger
Hi Patrick

better airflow vs. nice/easy cabling

better airflow= less HW issues
  = less impact
  = equip. lives longer
  = saves finally money

nice/easy cabling = nice to see
  = less cable problems
  = faster changes/troubleshooting on HW-side

So my vote is clear for better airflow.

Cheers,
Günti

Hi Vincent,

I've asked our 6rd Guru.
This is related to our PPPoE-customers. Their MTU is reduced by another 8 Bytes
because of the PPPoE header.

I hope this helps to clear the confusion.

Re: [swinog] Bluewin dynamic IP-ranges

Dear all

Since our IP-addresses are not a secret, I can deliver them on request.
We are thinking about a separate webpage where we publish our customer-ranges.
There are more and more such requests from customers/partners/providers for
this.

Disagree. This is the first spam in the list for years. If you find at least
three volounteers to moderate the list with guaranteed response time we can
talk about moderation, but even then I don't think it's necessary. This list
became rather low volume in the recent past, despite that it has today 863

Careful. The ratings on toppreise aren't always up-to-date.

A while back, I bought some networking gear from the Speicher-Shop. They were
also well-rated, but somehow the fact that the owner was going bankrupt and
didn't have any money to pay his employees was overlooked.

I chose payment in advance -- the usual conditions in Switzerland are such that
it is much more expensive if you don't. When my goods didn't arrive, and
e-mail exchanges with the shop asking for either the goods or a refund after a
while didn't get answered, I started calling around. I spoke to an employee of
the shop who told me the situation. While he was happy to give me the handy
number of the owner, he told me that I would only be lied to.

So I made use of the prosecution office (Betreibungsamt) for the first time,
other than to get an extract of my own clean record. The referred me to the
corresponding office in Rorschach, to whom I wrote a letter. (Annoying thing
is, everytime you write those people, they want Fr. 30 from you to do
anything.)

About that time, all mention of Speicher-Shop mysteriously disappeared from
toppreise.

Apparently my letter made it to the Attorney General of St Gallen, along with
complaints from others. They prosecuted and convicted the owner, and sent me a
list of several hundered plaintiffs with the amountd they were awarded. My
award covered the cost of what I ordered, the Betreibungskosten, and a bit
more, but nowhere near enough to cover the lost revenue from the project I
could not start on time because the device never
arrived.

And of course, the bankrupt owner never paid me anything back. I bet the only
costs that got recovered out of that operation are around Fr. 3'500 in court
costs.

So one should definitely beware of these online places on toppreise.
Perhaps the rating service could be expanded to cover financial soundness of
the offerors on a voluntary basis?

I don't KNOW anything about it, but I am experiencing the same here, since
about one hour. Some sites respond well, others not or only very shaky or
partial.

DNS query time between 500-700ms.

I particularly like how bluewin is capable of presenting me a NICE and
easy-to-find status page of their service - NOT. stone age or what?

No: Bluewin-DNS is fine for me. But i had some ADSL problems on 2-3. Jan:
I had about ~30% packet loss with any (?) gateway in 195.186.252.0/24.

Re-Connecting until i got a gateway in the 253-range fixed the problem for me

I have a suggestion: I could draft a comment (regarding "hacking-tools") for
the Vernehmlassung and submit it to the mailing-list for approval and input by
SWINOG members. As the author of a doctoral thesis on Art. 143bis (the Swiss
hacking provision), I might be able to add a certain academic weight to the
SWINOG position.

I would be prepared to do this for free, it wouldn't be a paid "Gutachten", but
rather a joint statement by an association of people who deal with this issues
on a daily basis and a lawyer who has studied this provision in depth.

If SWINOG agrees (do you have any decision procedures?), I would submit a draft
by 15 May 2009. The Vernehmlassung ends 30 June, so that would leave us enough
time for discussion.

Regards,
Christa

Note that according to the "Adressatenliste", SwiNOG was
explicitly invited to comment on the proposed change of law.

I guess SwiNOG should comment on Art. 143bis Abs. 2 and request a
clarification, in order to make sure that academical, commercial
and private IT security research will not be affected by the
change of law. The proposed wording of Abs. 2 currently does not
adequatly honour the fact that security tools are dual-use goods
by nature; i.e. they are not inherently good or evil. Or in
other words, there is no practical way to distinguish a tool used
by a professional penetration tester from a tool used by a
blackhat. The difference between the two is not in the tools,
it's in the contracts (i.e. approval of the target's owner).

sorry - that's not entirely true! Sometimes you have a dependency on the
Layer2-Protocol to support new Layer3-Protocols. It's now always as nice as
Ethernet where you just change the Ethertype. For example take DOCSIS, you can
use native IPv6 only with the 3.0 standard of DOCSIS, which most cable
operators in .ch don't use yet

So just think a bit before shouting "lazy ISP", the topic isn't that easy!

Did you tried to mark your routes with the L3-communities for local-pref? There
is a good chance your transit-providers will leave them on your route and thus
make you able to influence your routing within L3.

Hallo,

(in Kurzer Zeit)
Der Angriff dauert zwischen 8 und 15 Minuten... So wie es aussieht im Moment
sinkend. (ohne Gewähr).
Der Angriff wird alle 100 Minuten wiederholt

Das tragische ist das während des Angriffes keinen Traffic mehr durchkommt. Ist
auch anderen Providern das Problem bekannt...

Is there a problem with dns1.bluewin.ch? Requests for domains which were

The serial number on the response supports my theory.

If it hasn't really to be freeware/GPL then have a look into this tool:

I've seen a demonstration. It's powerfull, but not for free.

hi all

i'm just wondering what is the community using to document patchings within
their datacenter?
sure, there will be a lot of people telling me: excel - please no such answers
,-)

i'm looking for a kind of "intelligent" application (or at least based on a
database).
anything around? maybe opensource based?
