Re: [Swlfest] Train to Hotel

2017-02-16 Thread Richard Cuff
Great suggestion Ed - that's one of the reasons we have this list; people
have long used it to coordinate local transportation.

If one is adventurous, Google Maps can guide you in crafting an all-public
transportation itinerary from the airport or train station to the hotel, as
the adjacent mall is served by SEPTA buses. I find Google's interface more
helpful than SEPTA's own travel planner.

Anyone needing such a ride can post that request here or contact Mano directly.

On Friday I'm picking up one of our speakers at the Norristown
Transportation Center like I did last year.

Rich, thanks for making that useful airport shuttle update to the

The Tropiano airport shuttle to the hotel costs $29 (one-way) plus
mandatory gratuity. You have to call them well in advance at (215) 616-5370.

I you enjoy traveling by train, a cheaper and more interesting
option is to take the SEPTA airport line from PHL airport to
Philly's Jefferson Station (formerly Market East) and then
transfer to the Manayunk-Norristown Line to the Norristown
Transportation Center (which is a 15-min cab drive from the
hotel.) The train fare for the full trip is $9.00 and you can buy
your ticket from a machine on the PHL airport train platform (or
for a bit more on the train.) At Jefferson Station, tell the
train conductor that you're deboarding at the Norristown
Transportation Center. Here's the URL for SEPTA's "transportation
planner" which can create a train itinerary for you:
http://www.septa.org/m/maps/trip.html

From the Norristown Transportation Center you can take Uber or
Lyft for about $15 (or a taxicab for a bit more) to the
hotel. (Or if you have a friend at the hotel with a car, they
might be willing to make the short trip to pick you up ;-)

If you're coming from Philadelphia's 30th Street Station from
anywhere, for only $7.00 (pay on the train) you can take the
Manayunk-Norristown Line to the Norristown Transportation Center,
and then take Uber or Lyft for about $15 (or a taxicab for a bit
more) to the hotel. (Or if you have a friend at the hotel with a
car, they might be willing to make the short trip to pick you up ;-)

I hope folks find this transportation info useful. Maybe it can
also be added to the SWLfest.com website.

Best,

That oversight has now been corrected, and if you are looking for

Amtrak, and are not renting a car, then Tropiano Transportation
may be an option for you.
