[sword-devel] NET Bibles

2021-02-12 Thread David Haslam
What had happened to the Bible.org repository that’s in our masterRepoList.conf
file ?

It’s no longer got any NET Bible modules?

Has bible.org stopped providing their NET translation in SWORD format ?

Or have they just revamped their server and inadvertently broken the link for
their repository ?

When did whatever happened occur?

Best regards

David

They represent different workflows around how one reads/studies the
Bible. Neither is necessarily better than the other, but long ago I
tried them both and found that Xiphos (née GnomeSword) suited me better,
and that's why I attached myself to it.

I have sent an email to David Austin plus the last two contacts I have
in my email history with @bible.org email addresses.  Hope we can
rectify the situation soon.  I'll let you know what I hear.

[sword-devel] Xiphos vs BibleTime

2021-02-12 Thread Don Elbourne
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference between Xiphos and
BibleTime?

This question is not meant to cause controversy, but to ascertain which
project I would like to lend assistance to.

Re: [sword-devel] Sword for the Blind

2021-02-12 Thread Don Elbourne

Here is some good info on making Qt programs accessible to the blind

https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/accessible.html

If interested, one of my colleagues, who is blind and uses a screen
reader, is willing to review BibleTime and make suggestions.

Being involved with the BibleTime frontend, I can say that to my
knowledge BibleTime has not been tested.

There is a long-standing low-priority issue for this thou:
   https://github.com/bibletime/bibletime/issues/5

We haven't given this issue much thought, but it would probably require
a redesign of the BibleTime frontend, to the extent that writing an
entirely new, a more accessible frontend, might be a better option,
because it might not be straightforward to make some of our GUI flows
usable with text-to-speech engines.

While BibleTime uses the Qt toolkit for the GUI and the latter has at
least some support for accessibility interfaces, we have not had any
code changes being introduced for accessibility as far as I know.

I guess many (including myself) don't have a much knowledge (let alone
experience) about how to develop and test accessible frontends, so any
guidance on this matter would be welcome. What environments, software or
screen readers are used, are there any guides available for best
practices (e.g. like Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are for the
web) etc?

Best regards,
J
