A shame about Global 24: They actually were something worth talking

work (and dollars) required to feed transmitters 24/7, or they
overestimated how much people were willing to pay to have them on the

 Hi -

 Thanks, Mark, for the response.

Sending this in response to Paul Walker's comment earlier.

When this list was created, perhaps, what, 15 years ago (egad), its focus
was on programming content available via shortwave -- what was interesting
listening, new programs on air, programming reviews. Many classic
shortwave-related lists didn't care about content, so this list served a
 unique purpose.

Conversely, the list wasn't designed to be a loggings or QSL list, because
there were (and are) many good examples of those already very popular. My
own personal favorite is the ODXA list.

NASWA's list is good as well, but one has to be a NASWA member to belong
 there.

There are likely other good lists -- such as Glenn Hauser's DXLD list
-- but I am not as familiar with these other.

Over the years, as we all know, rocking chair - quality shortwave
listening, at least in most of North America, has significantly declined --
North America was one of the targets many broadcasters identified as not
being worth the investment in transmitter time, in part because we're online
so much, and because broadcasters felt (rightly or wrongly) we weren't a
 priority target for them.

For that reason, posting traffic to this list has been very infrequent for
several years. For a while, we were using this list to post links / reviews
of content available via download / streaming / podcast, and also used this
list for discussing broadcaster strategies regarding delivery platform
choices -- i.e. shortwave vs. Internet vs.
 smartphone app vs. local rebroadcast.

I also maintain a list that focuses on Internet-delivered radio, and again
focuses on content and technology (since QSLs really aren't that much of an
 issue for Internet-delivered radio).

I've been happy to see Paul's enthusiasm and postings, just because such
enthusiasm hasn't been all that prevalent here recently!
However, I suggest, Paul, that you might get a more lively discussion going
over on the ODXA list or one of these others when it comes to signal ID,
 QSLs, etc...

Any other questions? Let me know via e-mail (suggest you don't reply to the
 entire list).

Thanks -- Richard Cuff / list owner

[Swprograms] Another QSL card!

2015-05-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I'm up to over a dozen in about a month. I had primarily been an AM DX'er
for years and about 3 months ago, I switched almost entirely to SW Dxing.

I started writing for QSL's in about mid April and have already gotten over
a dozen

Another QSL card arrived in the mail, this one from China Radio
international for their 250,000 Watt broadcast on 9790khz from Cuba.

This broadcast on this frequency from this location is one of the
consistently strongest, steadiest signals I ever get on shortwave.
Sometimes audio is good, sometimes it's not.

Sincerely sorry for mis using the list.. Ive only recently gotten into SW
DXing (3 months ago after almost all MW DXing for 15+ years.. i'm 31 years
 old!)

I will continue to be subscribed to this list but will stop posting stuff,
as what I was posting wasn't quite the best choice of material.

I will say one last thing on this list..

I post what i post because I like to share my accomplishments. I also love
radio and want to share my love and passion for radio broadcasting, wether
it be Dxing or other non DXing related discussion topics.

I am often inspired by an email I read from someone about a new, far flung
station they logged to go and try and log it myself.

I want to inspire someone to try and log something new or share my other
 radio passion with others.

 Paul

Re: [Swprograms] who is this on 9835khz?

2015-05-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
My apologies, I've apparently been using this list improperly, for the
wrong things.. as i just got chastised by a member of this list for using
it too much and in the wrong way, saying I cant handle the amount of
traffic you single handedly generate. Before you came along, it was one
message a week and he said he was unscubscribing.

I will remain subscribed to the list but no logner post to it.

Sorry for the problems and trouble.

Paul

 Glenn,

I don't totally discount that it could be RTM from Malaysia but I've heard
them before and they just don't qutie sound like that... plus when I've
heard RTM it's been in the late morning to early afternoon hours here.

Altho shortwaveschedule.com claims to derive from the latest Aoki list,
if you go to it directly, you will find something else:

 9835 PBS Xinjiang0257-0800 1234567 Chinese
100 ND Urumqi TKS 4408N08653E XJBS a15
44 8 -86 53
  9835 PBS Xinjiang0800-1100 12.4567 Chinese
  100 ND Urumqi TKS 4408N08653E XJBS a15
  44 8 -86 53
  9835 PBS Xinjiang1100-1157 1234567 Chinese
  100 ND Urumqi TKS 4408N08653E XJBS a15
  44 8 -86 53

However, from the sound of your clip, I don`t think you should rule out
 Malaysia.

Mark, I mean 1045UTC.. we're in PDT which is
  +7
  I use that site, shortwaveschedule.com
but what I heard doesn't match or seemingly match RTM
Sarawak FM, which I've heard before, nothing else seems
  to fit the time schedule.

  Paul,
  Assume 145 is a typo for 1145UT,
right? Not sure AIR is on at that time. Having been in the

  Good resource I’ve recently found.

Malaysia) which I have heard here before, but much later in
  the day.
  It
kind've sounds like All India Radio from Delhi
