I'm spending my time to test some CMS plugin.
I'm looking for a plugin compatible with Symfony 1.2. Besides if it is
possible I prefer propel engine.

Maybe I'm in error, but SteerCMS is written for Symfony 1.0 and isn't
updated for many months. Sympal is in my "to-do list", but it uses
doctrine.

I'm very surprised about the available CMS plugin: many of them are
not updated for 1.2 version and haven't a stable or, at last, a
release candidate version. Besides many plugin aren't well documented
or have a bugged installation. I'm a beginner in Symfony and I'm
having great difficulty to test some CMS plugin. I don't want to
criticise the working community, this is just an observation by a
neophyte.

I didn't find complete documentation about DynamicCMS and I was not
able to make it working. I tried W3StudioCMS, but the sandbox isn't
working...

Could you advise me about a good CMS plugin?

2009-07-20 Thread Rino

Thank you for sharing your idea about that.
I agree with you: Joomla is not a good CMS.
It not have granular permission.
I prefer Xoops. Xoops have a granular permission dealed at two level:
1)in the kernel of CMS
2)in modules according to filosofy of CMS

Of course to develop all code with Symfony is the best choice...
but sometimes the problems is the time!
So you can have a CMS just developped with a lots of module and then develop
what you need.
It is a quite dirty solution but very very fast!

And.. it is not sure that it is dirty... if you find the right way to
write a module for CMS using
symfony.

Rino.

Sorry but I disagree: the choice of using the framework alone or
together with a CMS depends on the characteristics of the project.
The capabilities of content management are not always sufficient to
justify the use of a CMS. Besides, I think that the CMS availables in
the community should be selected with accuracy and knowing their
integration capability. In my opinion, Joomla isn't a good choice for
the medium/big projects with an extensive customization.
The CMS functionalities in my project, eg, are a "small core" compared
to the other features, that should also interact with the content
itself.

In this case, I think that the best thing for my project is to use CMS
+Symfony, and the CMS should not be Joomla: so I hope to be able to
use one of the available CMS plugin for Symfony.

But this is only my opinion, I do not want to denigrate the different
opinions.

Thank you for your reply (the article is very interesting).
The choice for Joomla was not of mine: my boss wanted to use Joomla,
but he's now convinced to develop only with Symfony without a "third
party CMS".

I'm going to install some Symfony CMS plugins, so my boss can watch
them. I hope your community will have a new member in a few days...

Something else to consider: you'll be loading two stacks instead of one,
this means increased memory overhead, slower performance, etc.

Many years ago I used to build sites with Joomla and I switched over
completely to using symfony for all my projects. symfony gives you more
flexibility. You have a good community and tons of excellent documentation
(Joomla documentation was always rather shabby IMHO). And there's tons of
plugins to give you admin/CMS and other useful functionality.
