Re: [Synfig-devl] On the status of development
Hello, Konstantin. Thanks for quick response and granting access. Now i can play Bug Admin just a bit ^_^ Also, while i'm at it, i should perhaps ask: is this mail list supposed to be a place for general development discussion (not individual issues, but like something long-term and fundamental) or it's better to do that on forum or bugtracker? Re: [Synfig-devl] Wiki Spam
>> Do you have any plan/ideas to "reboost" the code contribution? >> I don't just think of funding , i talk about dev' community. My first step is actually is already started - migration of bugtracker from our own hosted to github. >From now on all issues will be accepted on GitHub - https://github.com/synfig/synfig/issues With this we got increased activity on the bugtracker for the last month. Actually, this is proves that I was wrong when made a decision to use our own hosted bugtracker (I am talking about discussion about bugtracker few years ago). Custom bugtracker requires to create an account and have unusual interface - it brings some distraction for contributors. GitHub obviously gives an advantage of big community around it. So people are more easily to get involved. Also, there are no additional efforts on maintaining it. With GitHub it is also possible to use Bounties for development. This gives additional advantage to attract more developers, who can solve problems for bounty, and also gives users a tool to resolve important issues. This is especially important, since I am will not be able to invest into Synfig development in the nearest time (details described here - http://synfig.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10078&start=15#p32405). Another important thing that is on my radar - migration of the website to static HTML/Jekyll. That way we can host website on GitHub and anyone can contribute to it via pull request. The work on the new website is already started. The Jekyll might be also a good option to handle Synfig documentation. Because the current wiki requires a lot of efforts on maintaining (every upgrade is a pain). There is also a lot of spam comes to wiki - many accounts requested per day, most of them are spambots, captcha doesn't help. The worst thing - the bots have learned to write a proper request profiles about opensource and development. Actually, current queue of wiki join requests is basically unmaintained. SO, Jekyll could be a better option, but someone will need to handle pull requests for it. That's all thoughts currently. Thank you for taking care on wiki spam. ^__^ Here's just a few hints to make this routine more effective: 1. http://wiki.synfig.org/Special:UserMerge - allows to merge user with other. Usually I am merging all spammer users into user named "BlockedUser", that allows to keep usernames free. 2. http://wiki.synfig.org/Special:Nuke - allows to remove all pages, created by particular user. This is usually a second step of spam cleanup. I am removing all pages, created by BlockedUser. Best Regards, K. [Synfig-devl] On the status of development
Hi all! I am a new developer, actively coding Synfig at this time. You might've seen my PRs on github and.. that's pretty much the reason i write on the mailing list. It's getting quite inconvenient to wait weeks to get them merged. Another thing that bothers me is the new issue tracker. First of all, it seems that it wasn't properly announced anywhere, which still leads to confusion about which tracker to use. Second, while it's great to start with a clean state and not deal with tons of outdated issues, we're going to end up with new tracker issues getting outdated as well if nobody will attend to them and sort them out. I understand that most of core developers might not have time for Synfig at the moment and in that case i would happily help out, but for that i need write access and/or synfig membership on github.
