Well not sure I need to some convincing arguments since it's usefull
obviously otherwise others tools such as git or the kernel wouldn't do
that.

And as someone pointed at, git already implements this in a simple way.

I'm really not an automake stuff expert, so it might be already
possible to do that but I couldn't find it.
