Wish I had taped our box jumps, repeat up and downs on a 42" box with no
gathering, just land and immediatly jump back onto the 42" box, 10 times for
5 sets. 315 clean and 295/3 as well. Both Pr's,and done at a relitivly low
bodyweight of 205 lbs. Just so you know, lifting to throw the javelin
farther, not lifting to lift more.

t-and-f: Webpage is updated, two new videos..

2004-11-03 Thread andrew mcdonagh
As well as updated news and lots of new pictures. I posted a video I took
this april at Mt.Sac. Its a 75m foul from Mike Hazle. I have never seen some
one try so hard to save a throw that they almost flipped. Everyone that day
was dying in the heat and had very little left the last few rounds. Mike was
running around, doing runthroughs next to the runway etc. He is extremly
athletic and from what I saw at LSU,very strong. Those cute kids in the
pictures are my new neice and nephew.

t-and-f: NACAC video added

2004-08-03 Thread andrew mcdonagh
http://www.cox-internet.com/coachmcdonagh/
I just uploaded the Nacac video.
This was Erics 1st chance to throw in the red white and blue, and it meant
alot to him. He had a great time with his teamates. 73m11 1st throw and a
70m or so 2nd throw. Its a big file but better quality so you can play it
big without much distortion. I am amazed how bad the round 2 throw looks and
it still went 70m. We will improve that tecnique even more next year. If you
see how nice he stays up on the 70m warm up, do that with some speed and
agression and you have a big throw. Thanks to James Hatch for taping the
throws on my camera.

I think thw wr for over 40 is held by sildorenko from last year.
80.03 Vasiliy Sidorenko RUS 01 05 1961 3 Tula 14 07 2001 80m.It might
not last. Two of the all-time best hammer throwers are still going strong,
Igor Astapkovich BLR 4.1.63, so 40 in january and Tibor Gécsek HUN
22.9.64 , 40 in september 2004. Igor has thrown 81.34 this year and Tibor
has thrown 79.33. Igor threw 82.76,81.76 for Tibor.

t-and-f: A 6.40 60m at Notre Dame?

2002-03-03 Thread andrew mcdonagh

Have not seen this mentioned. I would bet it was a misprint. i have checked
three results and they all have it they same. He came in with a best this
year of 6.69 and it says he ran a 6.40 in the prelims. He did not run the
finals. Being a last chance meet, if he did not really get this fast time,
I assume he would run the finals. If right, Is is the second fastest of all
time? Hand timed sounds like a reason it would be so fast, but why would he
not run the final. The other times dont really seem that fast if hand timed.
Anyone at the meet and know what happened.

Re: t-and-f: IAAF Athletes of the Year announced

2000-11-26 Thread andrew mcdonagh

Being a walker you are probably a little biased. I am a thrower but I will
not presume to judge Rk's feats without knowing the facts. I wonder how much
you really know about his feats. Jan Zelezny's feats pale to nobody's.
1st Wr in 1987 at 21 years old
Serious back operation removing two vertebrae
Silver in 1988, lost gold on last throw by an inch or so
Other Wr's overturned by javelin modifications (not his fault)
1992 Dominating gold at the 1992 olympics, WR ,world number 1
1993 2 wr's,95m three times, world champion, world number 1
1994 World number 1
1995 world champion, world number 1
1996 Huge wr,98m48, best number 2 is 93.09, 1999 Parvaininen, zelezny has
multiple years and throws over that (top 100 of his throws average over 90m)
1996 2nd Olympic Gold, 3rd medal
Only a few have thrown over 90m, Parvainen,Kostas,Backely, Hecht, Henry??
Zelezny makes it routine!!
1998 has a serious shoulder injury thought to be career ending. Requires
massive shoulder surgery on his throwing shoulder
1999 throws 89m, world bronze
2000 Throws over 90m in 4 meets ? and wins third gold with a rib and elbow
injury
What judge greatness in track with the following.. longevity, high level,
major titles, great record, olympics..
The only person who really compares is Carl Lewis, the long Jumper.
A good view of peoples seasons are how high they are ranked in the athlete
of the year voting for t-and-f news and jan was high on the list in
92,93,94,95,96.
I am not saying your walker might not have deserved it more this year, but
what Zelezny has done his whole career is amazing. He is well respected
among all the worlds great track minds, it seems your just not one of them.

Re: t-and-f: Bernard Williams - Call your Agent

2000-10-01 Thread andrew mcdonagh

It was even worse when they got their Medals and on their victory lap. He
was embarrassing to watch and a disgrace, as were all members of the 4x100m.
Against the Olympic spirit and good sportsmanship. Disrespectfull to the
national athem also. Maurice Greene apologized for their actions later to
Costas. A suspension might be a suitable reply by USATF.

t-and-f: John Smith (throws) said he found out Sept 6th about CJ

2000-09-26 Thread andrew mcdonagh

Both Cj and Craig Masbeck claim they found out just a few days ago. John
Smith claims he found out on the 6th and was wondering if a cover up would
happen. This was on the throwers forum the "ring".
Did they really not know or are they lying? How would John Smith know?

t-and-f: Pay respect to Zelezny today(to those who have not yet)

2000-09-23 Thread andrew mcdonagh

Jan Zelezny
3 golds, 1 silver in 4 olympics,(lost gold in 88 by 2 inches on last throw)
2 world champs 93,95,99 bronze
98m48 world record, # 2 best thrower is 93m
His top 100 throws average over 90m!
13 years at the top (Wr back in 87)
Overcame big time injuries (back, shoulder etc)
6', 187 lbs
I really think this Gold puts him for sure ahead of Janis Lusis, Sedyck etc
Pay your respects to the greatest thrower ever.
He has all the ingredients for one of the best track athletes ever:
Dominance
Long career
Won the big ones (WC, Olympics)
Rules the all time lists
World records
comebacks

If there was a greatest calculator where you could enter all the relevent
information I don't think many would be ahead of him.

RE: t-and-f: Jacobs.

2000-09-16 Thread andrew mcdonagh

I also think its a lame excuse. the olympics only come around every 4 years
and when your 37 there might not be another. The whole idea of the olympics
is you step to the line and give your best. You dig deep and show your guts.
I would understand if she could not run, but a virus 2 weeks before. I
understand more with Hunter's withdrawl becouse he was also doing the best
thing for the USA since Godina is a 2 time world champ, a 22m thrower and 96
silver medalist. I do not think the replacement for Jacobs has a real shot
of doing much in the finals.
