Re: [Tagging] Architectural Monuments - ideas?

2014-02-18 Thread tshrub

Hey,

Hello,

I'm currently importing a list of Architectural Monuments into OSM.
The available information is the name, the architect, sometimes the
construction period. But how should I tag it? I was thinking about
three possibilities:

1) historic=architectural_monument: Some buildings are old, but most
are recent buildings. And also the relevance seems to be sometimes
not big enough to justify a historic tag.

2) tourism=attraction,
tourism=attraction:type=architectural_monument: Some buildings are
from famous architects, and might be tourist attractions. But most
might be more interesting to architectural interested than to normal
tourists.

3) building=architectural_monument: This is my preferred choice. As
it's the building itself which is a monument. But it conflicts with
other possible uses of the building type. E.g. if building=school or
building=station, it's very likely to be among the
architectural_monuments

There is as well "man_made" ... but I do not think this fits into a
city.

Thank you for your thoughts!

you might have a look to "Social-protected-area" 22

but basicly its more designed for scales larger than buildings, so in
this case for quarters.

best, t.

[Tagging] Tagging lifeguard watch towers

2014-02-18 Thread Fernando Trebien
Hello everyone,

Which tags would you use for tagging lifeguard watch towers on
beaches? (as they are described here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifeguard)

There's a discussion going on in the Brazilian community on which is
the best tag for this. Among the suggestions are:
- emergency_service=lifeguard
- health_facility:type=first_aid

Thinking from the point of view of applications (rendering and
geocoding), I kind of feel that this may be a health "amenity" similar
to amenity=doctors/clinic/hospital.

I wonder if this would also be a case of surveillance=outdoor +
surveillance:type=guard.

I won't see them as a health_facility and would put them under
emergency=lifeguard.

I think the term you are looking for is 'listed building' in UK English.

Whatever you are meaning with "architectural monuments", please don't
mix the term with monuments as defined in osm (
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:historic%3Dmonument , see also
the german page wich is more detailed). A monument is (like the smaller
memorial) *built to remember *and show respect to a person or group of
people or to a historic event.

Maybe you are referring to protected buildings in the sense of (world,
national, regional, local) heritage - please see
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/heritage
Even if it's only a draft, it is a de facto standard and broadly used.
See for example the historical objects map:

http://geschichtskarten.openstreetmap.de/historische_objekte/translate/en/index-en.html

Zecke

I suggest to use :service_times instead of opening hours here.
