Re: [Tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - drinking_water:refill_scheme

2020-03-03 Thread European Water Project
Dear Markus,

Done. I had a bit of hesitation there ... copying over the whole proposal
.. but now I see how the permanent link works to the last version of the
voted proposal.

Thank you for your help with this step.

Best regards,

Stuart

2020-03-01 Thread Markus Peloso
Hello

For step 3.
Replace the entire content/source from the «Proposed features/Free Water» with
this snippet:
«
{{Approved feature link|link=Key:drinking_water:refill|name=Free Water}}
{{Archived proposal|archive_id=1962961}}
»
The archive_id comes from the «View history» page by clicking the last / newest
entry and coping the value from the oldid parameter in the url.

Markus

Hello,

Since no one has manifested an objection (still not too late), I am going to
amend the final voted tag pair to :

drinking_water:refill=yes/drinking_water:refill=no
drinking_water:refill:network=network-name1;network-name2;network-name3;

Can someone please guide me on the below. I appreciate your advice. I would
like to complete all tasks associated with this tag implementation.

1. How do I change the name of the proposal page to better match what was voted
?... The page name corresponds to the one of the first interactions.
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Free_Water

2. How do I create the permanent feature page ? (should I create a second one
for "drinking_water:refill:network" or include it on the primary page ?)

3. I will need guidance on the next three steps as well, but this can come
after completion of 1 + 2.
* Add a link back to the proposal by using the statuslink parameter of the
feature template.
* Add a link to the permanent feature page in the proposal page using
Template:Approved feature
link<https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:Approved_feature_link>.
* Archive the proposal using Template:Archived
proposal<https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:Archived_proposal>.

Hi Again,

In addition to the previous email regarding voting outcome, I think it is worth
discussing the suggestion of Kovposch to make refill a namespace and use the
word network.

This would change the second tag of the tag pair to
drinking_water:refill:network=network-name1;network-name2;network-name3;

Does anyone have an opinion on this? I personally prefer this namespace
convention because of I find it more generic and I find the word "network"
clearer than "scheme".

A closed way is the most common method of drawing an area. The other common
type of area is a multipolygon relation. Shops and cafes and similar
features are mapped as areas (or nodes)

In the wiki, “can be used in ways” means linear ways which are not areas:
for example, rivers, roads, paths, fences, etc.

Dear All,

The wiki for key:drinking_water:refill has been created and has had already
it's first improvements ! Thanks Joseph.

Joseph, I noticed you removed "ways" as a preferred database entry to be
tagged. What is the difference between a closed way and an area ?

The three buildings which are currently tagged as drinking_water:refill =
yes are currently returned by the overpass query on
 way["drinking_water:refill"="yes"] (` +  boxString  +`);

Also, we just launched the phase 2 of our 100% open data project.

That's not necessary. It's fine to keep the proposal name as it is.

Login to the wiki, then go to
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:drinking_water:refill and
click "create this page".

Or you can use this direct link:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Key:drinking_water:refill=edit

> should I create a second one for "drinking_water:refill:network"

You can include it on the main tag page if that is easier.

But if you have time it is fine to make a specific page:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Key:drinking_water:refill:network=edit

To make the page, try copying the source text from a similar property
page, and pasting it,

For example copy the text from:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Key:drinking_water=edit

Then edit it to match your new proposal.

drinking_water:refill=yes/drinking_water:refill=no

Re: [Tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - drinking_water:refill_scheme

2020-02-19 Thread European Water Project
Hi Again,

In addition to the previous email regarding voting outcome, I think it is
worth discussing the suggestion of Kovposch to make refill a namespace and
use the word network.

This would change the second tag of the tag pair to
drinking_water:refill:network=network-name1;network-name2;network-name3;

Does anyone have an opinion on this? I personally prefer this namespace
convention because of I find it more generic and I find the word "network"
clearer than "scheme".

Best regards,

Stuart

Re: [Tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - drinking_water:refill_scheme

2020-02-19 Thread European Water Project
Dear All,

The proposal for tagging bars, restaurants, cafés, kiosks, which refill
water bottles for free as part of a refill scheme or as an independent
passes with 13 positive votes and three abstentions. Please note, that to
be tagged drinking_water:refill = yes, it is imperative that a sign is
evident so that the tag is verifiable.

The tag that has been voted positively takes into account the clear
preference for delimiting individual scheme names with semicolons - which
is common with other tags.

   - drinking_water:refill

   =yes

   /drinking_water:refill

   =no

   - drinking_water:refill_scheme

   =scheme-name

   1; scheme-name

   2;scheme-name3;

Can someone please guide me on next steps ?

   - Create the permanent feature description page:

   - A new page for the feature should be created and the relevant map features
   template
(depending
on whether it is a key, a value, or a relation) should be applied. Follow
the standard set by the Key:highway
    key and its values.
   - Add a link back to the proposal by using the *statuslink* parameter of
   the feature template.
   - Add a link to the permanent feature page in the proposal page
using Template:Approved
   feature link
   .
   - Archive the proposal using Template:Archived proposal
   .

Stuart

Re: [Tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - drinking_water:refill_scheme

2020-02-16 Thread European Water Project
Tomorrow is the last day of voting. The proposal has positive support ..
10 + and 2 Abs

There are two comments which are worth noting :

1 . It seems there is a strong preference for semicolon delimited scheme
names as a preferred alternative to refill_scheme = multiple. Untess there
are voiced objections, I will amend the proposal after the final vote to
take this into consideration.

2. Kovposch

suggested
making refill a namespace and changing refill_scheme to refill:network.
Intutitvely, this suggestion seems to be a good one, because of its more
generic nature. I also prefer the word "network" to "scheme" ...

For 2) What is the best way to proceed ? It wouldn't be right to just
change the tag to something people haven't actually voted on.

Best regards,

Stuart

Re: [Tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - drinking_water:refill_scheme

2020-02-04 Thread European Water Project
Hi Jake,

I am happy to follow the consensus on how to tag a café which belongs to
multiple schemes, but am hesitant in promoting a tag scheme which will not
be properly maintained.

drinking_water:refill_scheme=refillscheme1;refillescheme2;refillscheme3 clearly
has more information than just multiple, but will enough people be
motivated to maintain high accuracy of the data given that all the schemes
are essentially equivalent? European Water Project will include on the
App any establishment which belongs to one or more of the relevant schemes,
including our own, or is an "independent".

To avoid ambiguity and as stated in the proposal, an establishment should
only be tagged as offering water refills if there is a visible sticker
showing that it belongs to a water refill scheme or a has a displayed sign
stating "Free Water Bottle Refills" (or equivalent).

Best regards,

Stuart

Hi Stuart,
Can you clarify drinking_water:refill_scheme=multiple? I assume it should look
like drinking_water:refill_scheme=refillscheme1;refillescheme2;refillscheme3
using the semicolon to separate each value?

I have started the voting period on the revised proposal after an
additional one week RFC period.

The proposal is for how to best tag cafés, bars, restaurants, kiosks,
hotels, etc which belong to a water bottle refill scheme offering free
bottle water refill to anyone - whether or not a paying customer.

drinking_water:refill= ; and

drinking_water:refill_scheme=

Here is a link to the proposal :

Here is a link to vote

Hi Martin,

If it is clear that there is drinking water available for refill for
everyone there is no need to be part of a scheme.

Best regards,

Stuart

I think if they provide a water tap in the customer area with a "drinking
water" sign, it is perfectly ok and does not need more explanation.

I see. Then I am not enthusiastic about the proposed tag, because it
requires from any business to be part of a scheme in order to be mappable
as providing free water bottle refills. Someone who simply provides it,
could not be tagged, right?

It needs a sign to indicate, so that it is verifiable. Schemes provide a sign,
or a business can make its own

Its not something that can be mapped by asking. They may say yes to you but no
to someone else, or a different member of staff may not be so helpful.

I think they do need a sign or it is impossible to objectively map whether

It's better because it allows mapping places offering free refills that
aren't part of
a scheme (as long as the place has a sign stating it offers free refills).

If you're rejigging the proposal anyway, how about providing links to the
schemes
you mention and also criteria for mapping (the main one being that there is
a sign)?

would be cleaner and less confusing to have a simpler main tag. I think he
is right.

I know we just started voting, but given this suggestion which I prefer to

Re: [Tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - drinking_water:refill_scheme

2020-01-27 Thread European Water Project
Hello Martin,

A refill scheme is a cafe, bar, restaurant, club, hotel participating in
one of the many refill schemes where they agree to fill up anybody's water
bottle for free without any requirement to consume on the premises.Self
serve is not a requirement. A sticker or sign must be shown for an
establishment to be tagged as part of the refill scheme and just because a
barman fills up your bottle, one shouldn't tag a bar as part of a refill
scheme. Nor should an establishment be tagged as part of a refill scheme if
you need to fill your bottle up in the bathroom.

There are more small ones in the US and in specific European cities,
like Lucerne, Lausanne, and Berkeley. European Water Project will be
contributing to the creation of a 100% open data collaborative database of
establishments participating in the refill revolution.

best regards,

Stuart

Re: [Tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - drinking_water:refill_scheme

2020-01-27 Thread Warin
The minimum time for comments is 2 weeks that is 14 days, not the 10
given so far. Suggest you wait a little longer.

The minimum time for voting is 2 weeks that is 14 days, you may run
voting longer than that if you desire.

The link is wrong.
Most use
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Proposed_features/Free_Water

so they can read the present proposal. then they go to ?? There is no
voting section presently ...

You need to do a tidy up?

Thank you all for your comments and input during this tumultuous process.

After much deliberation, the latest proposal
"drinking_water:refill_scheme = " seems to have enough support
to merit being put to a vote.

Please find below the proposal for drinking_water:refill_scheme being

Thanks for that. Now it's clear for me.

+1 from me for drinking_water:refill_scheme

I found three national programs (with maps) that I think are
related to this tag.

Dear All,

I have amended the proposal with the tag and a simplified example.

The proposal is definitely more KISS.

drinking_water:refill_scheme =

Thank you.

Paul's response did clear up my reservations on the idea.

The webpage makes it clear there is a sticker that is verifiable
without going in a asking. Not sure if that was mentioned before
or if I had simply missed it.

This meets the gold osm standard of Verifable.

Now I know there is something to look out for I can start looking
when I'm out.

Its a shame the website doesn't have location, I do not use Google
play, but I guess thats why you want to put them into OSM.

As its a UK scheme, discussion on the talk-gb list would be more
focussed and you will reach more mappers who are able to survey
and contribute.

Cheers
