I am not saying they are the same, I was pointing out, that, by stretching
the duck principle a bit you could use the same tag. But I would prefer us
finding a better tag.

You must be looking at different picture. The one I linked, shows
definitely false guard stones on the valley side. I drove that road in
1963, when it was in better shape, I guarantee you the protection was on
the correct side, and the terrain is steep.

I learned the term. "Leitstein" today from the report that I googled.

 C) Freestanding guardstone-like objects are often found independently of
buildings.

Those look like barrier=bollard perhaps?

2020-12-21 Thread Volker Schmidt
I forgot to follow up on two other aspects of this, sorry.

A) how are they tagged when two of them are on both sides of a gate

?

B) There are occasionally also rows of them in historic towns

.

C) Freestanding guardstone-like objects are often found independently of
buildings.
I am not sure what they are called, here are some examples.
They come in three types of arrangements:: pairs, or rows, or pairs of
rows.
The pairs are often on minor roads on embankments
 (don't know what
the purpose was)
The rows are often on major roads on embankments
, or older
mountain pass roads.

(predecessors of guardrails I suppose)
