it's "vapour" in British English (what OSM uses).

I have always heard the term "sodium vapor" when talking about those bright
yellow lights. It is sodium vapor excited by high voltage that produces the
characteristic yellow light. I'm pretty sure mercury lamps work the same
way.

Therefore I'd vote for lamp_type=sodium_vapor (or mercury_vapor)
