I ended up looking at this today and found the cause of our issue
(basically there is a bug in either GIO or GVFS). See updates in the ticket.

It is interesting to have a look at Google Trends for SELinux versus
AppArmor:
http://www.google.com/trends/explore?q=%22selinux%22+%22apparmor%22#q=selinux%2C%20apparmor&cmpt=q

(I still prefer SELinux.)

[Tails-dev] Please review'n'merge feature/linux-3.10.11

2013-09-15 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

Linux was updated in Debian unstable a few days ago.
This update fixes a few security issues and a bunch of bugs.
I think we should ship it in Tails 0.20.1.

=> please review feature/linux-3.10.1, and merge it into devel.

(I've already taken the liberty to merge it into stable because I'm
preparing the 0.20.1 ISO right now, but this can still be reverted or
improved if needed.)

Cheers,

[Tails-dev] Please review doc update wrt. problematic USB sticks

2013-09-15 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

as we are seeing more and more bug reports about problematic USB
sticks (mostly due to the fact they don't expose themselves as
removable devices, which is — unfortunately — right according to the
standards, although totally new TTBOMK), I felt the need to explain
how to diagnose this boot failure mode, how it can be workaround'd
temporarily, and why this is dangerous:
https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/bug_reporting/tails_does_not_start/#entirely

I also started a list of problematic USB sticks:
https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/#problematic-usb-sticks

I'm not very happy with how the tails_does_not_start/#entirely flow is
after my addition, but I am unsure how it could be improved.

Doc writers, please review and suggest improvements if needed :)

Cheers,
