Choose any licence you want for my logo. If you can't then let's go for GPL.

[Tails-dev] Pushed a build fix to all branches: zd1211-firmware was renamed to firmware-zd1211.

2014-04-01 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

FTR, all builds were broken today since zd1211-firmware was renamed to
firmware-zd1211, so I've pushed a fix to all current branches.

Cheers,

Thanks for those new versions, I updated them on the contest page.

SVG: Technical difficulty persists. Inkscape cannot read Graphics
Program's vectors. Will need to re-create in Inkscape, if other
arrangements cannot be made. Will require time to do so.

Ok, you can work on that later if your design is chosen. I don't think
your work should be too difficult to convert to SVG.

Re: [Tails-dev] Feedback wanted on planned implementation of Feature #5301 - Clone or Backup Persistent Volume

I agree with the general idea, and will only discuss its
 implementation here.

I'm wary of having to maintain yet another shiny new piece of code
that does basically tar|gpg. I'm sure the initial implementation would
be very straightforward, but I'm also convinced that there are tons of
corner cases to handle, that one initially does not think of. And once
we take it all into account, then we get a large piece of code to
maintain all by ourselves, because it was meant only for Tails' needs.

So, I would try not to reinvent this wheel, and use an existing,
 proven solution instead.

I would suggest looking into duplicity (http://duplicity.nongnu.org/)
first: it supports something that's basically tar | gpg for the
first iteration, and it also leaves room for future improvements,
thanks to its support for incremental and/or remote backups. Also, it
allows users to restore or inspect their backups outside of Tails,
without having to manually decipher yet another backup file format.

There are probably other plausible candidates worth comparing with
 duplicity :)

 Cheers,

Ok, so I took a look at this. It seems mainly focused on doing
differential backups and backing up to cloud based storage services. Is
this something that one wants to do? I couldn't imagine putting my data
into the cloud, even if it was encrypted.

There is also the issue of the archive directory. It says you need to
keep it 'in order to manage persistence for current and future
enhancements.' So, we then have to persist this but exclude it from the
backup?

I'm not opposed to using something that can make this easier, but the
main task that I want to accomplish with this is get a backup of
persistence without having to have a root password enabled, and get it
restored. If it's critical that it be able to differential backups and
all that in the future, I can go with this. Otherwise I don't
see this being any easier, or maybe even more difficult than the very
basic strategy.

Perhaps I am being myopic. If the code acutally do the
backup once I have a filehandle to work with gets very big whatsoever,
I'll certainly look for something that's been written already.

[Tails-dev] End of the submission phase for the logo contest

2014-04-01 Thread sajolida
The deadline for submission to the Tails logo contest has now ended.

We received 36 different proposals from 31 designers. Here they are:

https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/logo/

I was really impressed by the quantity, the diversity, and the quality
of the proposals we received. I never thought it would go so well.

So I wanted to send you all a big thank you again for your work! Each
one of those proposals made me happy because I realized how much our
project means to all of you and it also proved that you were ready to
give back some of your talent and time to the project. And that's the
whole point of being free software!

Starting from now, the people who are most actively contributing to
Tails will have one week to vote on your proposal using the Schulze
method [1]. By April 9 the winner will be announced.

In the mean time, we won't accept changes to your designs anymore, but
you can still clarify some licensing and source issues. See the TODO
items next to your proposal.

Re: [Tails-dev] More tails.boum.org HTTP response headers?

2014-04-01 Thread boum

I propose to add the following HTTP headers to all Tails web pages

 X-Frame-Options:
   SAMEORIGIN

 X-XSS-Protection:
   1; mode=block

 X-Content-Type-Options:
   nosniff

Done: these ones seemed harmless and useful.

 Content-Security-Policy:

We won't decide to set this before someone at Tails (e.g. Alster) has a
closer look and confirms the proposed CSP won't break things for you. It's
your website, and your content, after all.

These headers should be reviewed about a year from now since hopefully
more of them will be standardized and implemented by then. Namely
X-Frame-Options and X-XSS-Protection should have been included into CSP
at this time, and CSP 1.1 should be finalized (deprecating some elements
of 1.0 I'm suggesting to use above).

Please keep us updated :-)

Thank you!

Great idea, thanks! I'm including r...@boum.org in the loop, since
there is nothing we at Tails can do about it.
