I agree that, if Tails was to include software for another
cryptocurrency, it should be Monero.

We have a FAQ about adding more software to Tails:

https://tails.boum.org/support/faq#new_software

If a software is not included in Tails, but is included in Debian, you
can use the Additional Software feature of the Persistent Storage to
install it automatically every time you start Tails.

I see that the monero CLI and server is already in Debian but that the
shape of the package is not super great:

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/monero

I can't find any GUI for it in Debian.

If the Monero project upstream is serious about Linux adoption, they
should be the ones working on having it in Debian. I don't think that
Tails should do this work.

I think it is a great idea to include Monero onto Tails. Monero is a very
mainstream coin as an alternative to Bitcoin.

Electrum is a privacy nightmare unless you run your own electrum server.
Which most people do not do. Even if electrum is kept for compatibility
reasons I think we should at least include a more privacy focused bitcoin
wallet like Wasabi. Wasabi wallet can be built reproducible.

Right now Monero is better for privacy and by default. But I think we
should still keep Bitcoin support on Tails because Bitcoin is way more
mainstream than Monero and there is still a need to be able to use
Bitcoin. My suggestion is include Monero cli because monero cli can be
built reproducible. And monero cli client is better. But if Monero gui can
be built reproducible in tails then to include that as a user easy to use
option for the less tech savy. And to include Wasabi wallet for bitcoin.

Bitcoin lightning network support in tails would be nice also. I am not
sure what wallet would be best for that. I know the latest version of
electrum in beta now has support for lightning. I am hoping Wasabi Wallet
eventually includes lightning network support.

If electrum wallet is kept in tails what about idea to include electrum
personal server software with tails to promote more privacy? Electrum is a
great wallet but is horrible with privacy if you do not use your own
server or electrum personal server.

[Tails-dev] Preparing the upcoming release: 4.9

2020-07-15 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

After a somewhat extended break, I'm trying to plan my coming back to
Tails duties to get ready for the upcoming release (4.9, July 27-28).
It'll take me a few days to catch up with at least Jenkins results,
trying to prioritize GitLab stuff that's waiting on me, and checking
recent changes to the release process.

If you feel some topic might need special attention, as usual, feel
free to get in touch with me. Depending on the topic, one or several
lists in recipients should work; feel free to cc me explicitly to make
sure I see your mail. :)

Thanks for bearing with my being away and slowly coming back.

Cheers,
