[Tails-dev] Document how to serve files over HTTP behind a Tor Hidden Service

2014-10-03 Thread exit-1
Thank you very much sajolida, I really appreciate receiving your
comments. My next steps are clear.

In answer to your questions:

By curiosity, which text editor did you use to produce that document?
- I used Gedit mainly but I did try out some online markdown editors
also, http://markable.in/ for example. The wierd characters could have
arisen by copy-and-pasting from there - I won't use them in future.

What is the line "## Edit "2.25b-11_i386" if different" about?
- Edit "that-part-of-the-filename" of the downloaded thttpd package, if
not version 2.25b-11 for architecture i386. Unlikely but I thought it a
useful comment to include just in case.

So, on to more refining and I'll post to tails-dev again when I've made
some progress.

Sorry I couldn't join in the IRC meeting this evening - maybe next time.

[Tails-dev] broken links

2014-10-03 Thread exit-1

Thanks sajolida.

https://tails.boum.org/contribute/how/documentation/guidelines/

The link now works under

'Tips, notes, cautions, bugs, and next'

but still .../stable/ which loads '403 Forbidden' under

'Follow the GNOME Documentation Style Guide' and
'Use title capitalization rules from Wikipedia'

And the [DocBook tags] link under

'CSS formating for GUI documentation'

has dissapeared.

[Tails-dev] On keeping Tails running with the laptop lid shut

2014-10-04 Thread exit-1

Hello

After much searching and failing with systemd, I have just found out how
to close the laptop lid in a Tails session, without it even cutting the
network connection, and thought it was worth sharing:

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power
lid-close-ac-action nothing

Note this is for 'ac' not 'battery'. Perhaps someone can work this
option into System Settings, in case running a server for example in
Tails would be an interest. If shutting down in a hurry is a concern,
one can always just pull out the USB stick :)

Nice finding. I wonder where this piece of information should be kept.
This is pretty specific and won't fit in the FAQ. But as you mentioned,
since that's especially useful for server usage maybe you can add it as
a tip to your documentation about HTTP serving.

- Yes, I can include it there, thanks.

- I'm now subscribed and checking mail.

Does this blank the screen to prevent overheating?

- Yes it does blank the screen, so it could be also worth mentioning no
noisy fan etc, thanks. Also it seems `lid-close-[ac/battery]-action
blank` has the same effect as `... nothing`, or is something else
happening?

I looked for a replacement for this but couldn't find any. Actually,
the

CSS formatting that we commonly used is already listed on that page. So
we can live without that external link.

Thanks. Yes, I forgot to mention before that I couldn't find a [DocBook
tags] link either.

Does this blank the screen to prevent overheating?

No. This is lid-close-ac-action=blank which is current Tails
default.

..
Now I think of it, the default lid-close-battery-action=suspend was
initially more of an issue, often trying to work in Tails on the move.
This led me to explore further.

[Tails-dev] Tails 1.2~rc1

2014-10-10 Thread exit-1

Hello
Tails 1.2~rc1 is running well for me. Upgraded automatically from 1.1.2
- the download took about two hours. Seems faster overall and
particularly the new browser. Had no trouble serving files over HTTP
behind a Tor Hidden Service.
