We have to draw the line somewhere, e.g. we don't design nor produce
hardware ourselves, although hardware is needed to make Tails function
as intended. sajolida then explained where we currently draw it:

Hi,

sajolida:
That's pretty much out-of-scope for our project.

I am not sure what you mean.

It seems that ensuring the 'Incognito' experience functions as intended
is within scope.

We rely on whatever is available in the Linux kernel and
Debian firmware packages, so the work should be done
there and it will work in Tails.

Okay.

I agree that it is to be expected that drivers and whatnot are included
upstream.

No worries.

That's pretty much out-of-scope for our project. We rely on whatever is
available in the Linux kernel and Debian firmware packages, so the work
should be done there and it will work in Tails.

[Tails-dev] Physical Ethernet Adapter

2016-02-16 Thread Spencer

Hi,

 Spencer:
Does Tails natively support external internet adapters?

intrigeri:
Yes, most of them (USB ones).

Is this limited to either ethernet or wifi?

Some more questions:

How is Tails planning on addressing the lack of built-in ethernet ports,
now and in the near future?

I ask because I am working on the internet experience, as it relates to
the startup flow.

Given the ever increasing lack of ethernet ports on devices, and the
increasing use of Tails as a security distribution, it seems valuable to
investigate support for ethernet adapters and external wireless cards,
PCI, USB, Thunderbolt, and so on.

What do you think?

I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do with this little info.

Please send a complete bug report, that should include all the info
our frontdesk people will need to help you debug the problem:

It's a development question.

I figured there was documentation; searched crickets.

[Tails-dev] Physical Ethernet Adapter

2016-02-09 Thread Spencer

Hi,

Trying to use ethernet adapter on device with no ethernet port.

Ethernet is supported on 2.0, it seems, with a device that has an
ethernet port.

Ethernet adapter is for linux kernel.

Tried, what I understood, from #10522 and #9012 but didn't get very far.

Any thoughts? Does Tails detect and load the respective driver only when
ethernet is detected during boot?
