Re: [GTALUG] GitLab plans to delete dormant projects in free accounts

Understanding Space costs $$ . But this is somewhat silly since there are a
lot of good projects out there that are dead(no new updates) but still very
much useful.
1 yr is nothing. Maybe if it was a 10 yr old project I can see that.

Re: [GTALUG] another unique store gone: Above All Electronic Surplus

2019-12-16 Thread Digiital aka David via talk
Sadly with the days of the internet it's getting easier to buy all those
weird and cool stuff online. Plus younger people are just not into
the tinkering, it's the mind set of "why build, when I can build"

I can't count the days and hours I spent at Active . I'm pretty sure I
still have some things I bought there with the idea of building something
with it, and never got to it.

I wish that Canada Computers would possibly would fill in the gap in a
small way to the makers(or the old Radio Shake). I'm in Brampton and
our local CC has a few aisle that are just totally empty or just have
dozens and dozens of the same product as a filler.
Maybe if you are luck you may see one or two boxes of a 3D printer, or
filament.
Sucks when you want to buy a Raspberry Pi and it costs $11 for shipping.

When I jump down to the US to visit family I'm always going into micro
center
which I look at as a US version of CC with a good selection of a maker
area.
I can buy a raspberry pi zero ( 1 per visit) for $5(US), I make sure to
stop in a few times :)
and not only get the pi but stock up on my maker needs.

Then there was Active Electronics, on Lombard St. and when needed I

12 seconds to the cloud and it will notify you when it senses motion.

When I'm traveling to the US I just load up my Roam Mobility Card before I
leave. It's a MUCH better deal than using one of the CDN providers with
roam option.

https://roammobility.com/plans

This company uses T-Mobile network. I have not had a issue with coverage(a
few yrs ago in VT it was pretty spotty, but other wise when I drive to NJ
there is zero problems)
At some point in the past you could choose the City where you got a number
from. Now it's a random location when you signup.

512MB per-day is plenty and if you do use it up it just slows down to 2G
speeds afterwards. For Emails and GPS it's plenty.

Re: [GTALUG] Raspberry Pi 3 Model B for $50 at Newegg.ca

2017-11-22 Thread Digiital aka David via talk
Speaking of Pi's.. How about a good source in the GTA that doesn't charge
for a Pi Zero Wireless as much as a Pi3?

Re: [GTALUG] Question

2017-01-12 Thread Digiital aka David via talk
Oh I clearly knew that but the older people in the company were always
pushing back. "Why do we need something new, we have this and it works"
clearly it didn't work. it was amazing how it actually did work, the
'access db' didn't use keys. The guy that dev'ed it linked tables with text
and not a unique key example "Part123" and "part123" were the same part
, but showed up as two different parts in the system. :) and depending who
used the application, they would update the inventory one which ever part
came up ... "part123 = 10 parts" and "Part123 = 14" over all 24 parts, but
funny when "part123 = 0" was down to 0 they would order more but actually
had 14 still in stock

It's a looong story... the owner was set in his ways.

Re: [GTALUG] Question

2017-01-12 Thread Digiital aka David via talk
Could have used that meetup a few yrs ago. I was working with a manufacture
in Mississauga that wanted to replace the homebrew ERP system(access??
Bl) and I was in the stages of rebuilding it using OpenERP(Odoo) but
they didn't like the flow because they had been doing the biz the same way
for over 30 yrs and just not possible in Odoo so they scrapped the
project/and me :)

Now they realize that they have to make some change and decided to go with
http://openpro.com/ which isn't open at all.

Re: [GTALUG] Certificate Error On Chrome

I was getting that error as well.. I did a system update (MINT) and
rebooted to make sure there was a clean start and the website I was having
are now resolved. It's a known bug.
