One of the things I do when a program loses focus is make sure my
Window is maximized using alt-X followed by the spacebar.
I also use the command to redraw the screen insert-backslash.
Those of you losing focus with email clients may perhaps find these
tricks useful.

Great feedback on Fusion, thanks. With that said, I am able to shut down Fusion

Subject: Re: WE Vs. Fusion

Hi Jeremy:

First, great job on Fusion.

Although I am not a user of low vision products, I just had to check
out fusion and see how well the screen-reader part worked.

I can't answer which hotkeys didn't work with the other user, but, I
can tell you about a couple minor issues which you may be aware of.

I don't know if this is appropriate for the "Talk" list, so, will not
keep posting about this too much.

First, the new Learning Center is fantastic! And, the Tutor mode will
be great for newbies who use the screen-reader part also.

Also, if a person buys Fusion, and, looses his/her sight (not that we
want that to happen), or maybe their eyes get tired, they definitely
are benefited by paying for Fusion. Worst case scenario, they get the
Magnification product, and, if they need it later, they've already got
a great screen-reader and they probably wouldn't need to pay $895 for
Window-Eyes. I guess one can look at the pricing in 2 ways. One, if
you want ZoomText, but, might need Window-Eyes, you get Window-Eyes
for $400 extra. If you want Window-Eyes, but, need magnification for
a while, you get the magnification for $100 extra. Reason I say this,
is, if you bought ZoomText for $595 then Window-Eyes for $895, that's
about $1700. So, if you buy Fusion you're saving about $800 and
getting the best of both worlds.

Anyway, the 2 issues I most noticed were these:

When installing the product, the program sometimes interrupts the
setup wizard to check for app updates, then, the user will have to
manually enable the wizard again if they want to use it. This
behavior doesn't happen all the time, so, it may be hard to track
down, but, thought I'd mention it.

Also, the hotkey Insert+f4 does not shut down the program as listed
(however, I'll have to read the manual to see what it says about that
key). I changed to the Window-Eyes default layout just to see if that
made any difference, but, it didn't.

I wish I could comment on the magnification side of things, but, I am
totally blind. I just had to try out Fusion to see what it was like
from my point of view.

Here's to the introduction of a great product which gives the user the
best of both worlds.

Thanks for your time!

Re: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?

Yes, I don't know what that is. It doesn't seem to do anyting, so I just
hear it and make a mental note of it and go on. It happens usually at the
end of a download, like when I'm downloading a book from BARD. Pam.

A side note, anyone else?
I was just in internet explorer in the website where I get allot of lockups.
I got none but it is about 4:30 am so likely little net traffic here and not
allot of dynamic, flash and other ads being scheduled since they don't want
to waste money with ads when few people are online in this area.
Now, when I closed internet explorer and returned to my desktop program I
heard a ca ching and WindowEyes said there was no information bar, think it
was information bar and then I was placed into my desktop program as usual.
I used alt-f4 to close internet explorer so this message should not have
happened unless WindowEyes was confused about something and so I thought I
would see if others have heard this or something similar.
It may indicate WindowEyes processing a message or something like being in
the wrong script or something if it happens so it was unusual, happened and
we need to see if it is happening often enough to be in consideration when
thinking about internet explorer, focus and intermittant problems we are
encountering.
But if others are not having these types of problems we might not need to
include them in looking at the problem at hand - don't know but it was an
incorrect response by WindowEyes to a simple alt-f4 to close internet
explorer.

WindowEyes Internet Explorer Crashes Resolved For Me

2016-02-19 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi:
Thanks to the many posting from you folks and some homework...
I was able to narrow my search to what caused my Internet Explorer crashes.
it appeared my ATI Internet Settings needed to be tweaked.Since I set them
to use software rendering 99 percent of my WindowEyes crashes have gone away
and WindowEyes is rendering smoothly and completely - or as much as it ever
did.
After 2 days of pounding some pretty dynamic sites where I would have
expected perhaps 75 or more crashes over the past 2 days I had 1 and it was
a flash caused error.
So these particular set of problems do not in fact seem to be WindowEyes
related and for me there was a fix.
For others you need to figure out what is causing the crashes on your
machines and figure out how to handle them if there is a way for you to
handle them.
The ATI cards can be set to not use the cpu accelleration option in Internet
Explorer and that is what has seemingly fixed my problem.
Now, lets hope it holds and I have eliminated one problem!
If you have allot of Internet Explorer crashes try turning off the cpu
accelerator option in Internet Explorer under the Options Menus Advanced
Settings I think, you can uncheck it or check it to try it out so it is not
a permanent change.
I had to use Visual Studio to find out which individual dll was blowing up
so if you don't have Visual Studio perhaps someone out there can tell you
how to find out the underlying dll that is causing the crash on your
machines to see if there is a easy work around and so you can fix it.
I have recently found some tab items on web pages, more and more of them
being used, that WindowEyes doesn't seemingly read but I think work with
other screen readers but that is the next story in the saga me thinks.

Internet Explorer Lockups

2016-02-19 Thread Tom Fairhurst via Talk
As I have followed the discussion on this thread for some time. I am now
prepared to make some observations. First, when I sent some examples of links
to AI Squared Technical Support, they wrote back very nicely, explaining what
the web pages were doing. They were taking a thread of a process in the
computer. While I don’t know what that means exactly, I believe AI Squared is
trying to help. I have Windows 7 64-bit Pro with 8 gigs of ram. In light of
that, we are realizing that these lockups are not all Window-Eyes related. I
have read with interest the possible culprits. Here’s what I did. I kept iCloud
on my computer because I do have an iphone. However, as suggested, I did check
the Soft-Ware Rendering box in Internet Explorer 11. under Advanced Settings.
Then, I uninstalled the Java Access Bridge and WE4Java. Having done these
things, my experience with IE has greatly improved. The day is not over yet,
but I have had no lockups. In the past, I have had at least one every day, and
sometimes several in a day. I use Classic Shell, but I have disabled the bar in
Internet Explorer. I don’t claim to answer everyone’s issues, but I hope this
will help.

RE: WE Vs. Fusion

2016-02-19 Thread Sky Mundell via Talk
Hi Jeremy. I can personally speak to this from a adaptive technology trainer
perspective. In my opinion, Fusion is going to be a big player in the
windows market and sooner or later their will be no need for people who have
low vision to spend out on buying a screen reader because they'll have
Window-Eyes and zoomtext in a single package.

Hi Jeremy:

First, great job on Fusion.

Although I am not a user of low vision products, I just had to check out
fusion and see how well the screen-reader part worked.

I can't answer which hotkeys didn't work with the other user, but, I can
tell you about a couple minor issues which you may be aware of.

I don't know if this is appropriate for the "Talk" list, so, will not keep
posting about this too much.

First, the new Learning Center is fantastic! And, the Tutor mode will be
great for newbies who use the screen-reader part also.

Also, if a person buys Fusion, and, looses his/her sight (not that we want
that to happen), or maybe their eyes get tired, they definitely are
benefited by paying for Fusion. Worst case scenario, they get the
Magnification product, and, if they need it later, they've already got a
great screen-reader and they probably wouldn't need to pay $895 for
Window-Eyes. I guess one can look at the pricing in 2 ways. One, if you
want ZoomText, but, might need Window-Eyes, you get Window-Eyes for $400
extra. If you want Window-Eyes, but, need magnification for a while, you
get the magnification for $100 extra. Reason I say this, is, if you bought
ZoomText for $595 then Window-Eyes for $895, that's about $1700. So, if you
buy Fusion you're saving about $800 and getting the best of both worlds.

Anyway, the 2 issues I most noticed were these:

When installing the product, the program sometimes interrupts the setup
wizard to check for app updates, then, the user will have to manually enable
the wizard again if they want to use it. This behavior doesn't happen all
the time, so, it may be hard to track down, but, thought I'd mention it.

Also, the hotkey Insert+f4 does not shut down the program as listed
(however, I'll have to read the manual to see what it says about that key).
I changed to the Window-Eyes default layout just to see if that made any
difference, but, it didn't.

I wish I could comment on the magnification side of things, but, I am
totally blind. I just had to try out Fusion to see what it was like from my
point of view.

Here's to the introduction of a great product which gives the user the best
of both worlds.

Thanks for your time!

RE: Combo boxes on a Web site

2016-02-19 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
Hi,
Try going to the apps menu in Window--eyes, control-backslash for the
Window-eyes control panel, alt-a.
Arrow down to diagnostics and press enter.
Arrow down to refresh accessibility libraries and press enter.
If your user account control comes up, allow it.
Finally reboot your computer.

Subject: Combo boxes on a Web site

This is probably a minor settings glitch, but when I go to the BARD
site, (NLSBARD.loc.gov) I can't read the combo boxes which contain the
listings of categories, magazines, etc. I could always arrow down
through a list; now, when I press the arrow key, nothing happens. I may
only see the first item.
This may have been featured before, but I had no problem in the past. I
am running Windows 8 and the latest version of Window-Eyes.
Thank you.

Peace.
Linette

RE: dinging mouse

2016-02-19 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
Hi,
For the future, make sure mouse is set to line with alt-numpad 5.

That setting may have been changed.

Subject: dinging mouse

Hi,

Please ignore my message, a copy of which appears below, because the
mouse keys are now working correctly.

Once a week I bak up my system so just replaced the existing WE default
folder and problem gone. A setting of some sort must have been changed
some how but thanks to the back up, a problem no longer.

Neville.

Using: Latest WE, W7 HP 32 bit,

When an attempt is made to go down the screen with the mouse keys it
only dings although the arrow keys work as normal. This behaviour
happens on the Desktop, in Thunderbird and it seems, everywhere else.
This behaviour has only started in the past couple of days.

The mouse boundry is set to active window but all boundaries give the
same result.

The correct set file is loaded and associated.

The screen is maximized.

All apps were turned off for a while but no difference there either.

I am wondering if it is the keyboard layout command but can not find the
command to invoke or disable it.

Has anyone got any ideas on what else can be tried? This is driving me
nuts.

Cheers
Neville.

Internet Explorer Lockups

2016-02-19 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: Lets change the Is WindowEyes causing Lockups topic title since it does
not appear to be a problem unique to WindowEyes.
Some folks are getting off topic in that thread and I am just trying to
narrow the problem down to see if we cant come up with a common set of items
to try and find or suggest a fix.

Hi: Is anyone using Ad blocking software with Internet Explorer and, if so,
are you experiencing lockups and how often?
