it appears that microsoft does not check your computer for a screen
reader.
you have to find this hidden web site and download a file that will
allow
you to get the free windows 10 upgrade after july 29

copy and paste the link into your browser if it will not activate
because it
is wrapping to the next line.

problems. It's going to be a while before I go to Windows 10, but he says
the voice recognition in his little hunk-o'-junk phone is better than then
one for Cortana. Hopefully, they'll improve on this feature. Is he in the

Re: Interesting reaction when I tried to run Edge from the taskbar

2016-08-07 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
Well Kelley, I might have to take a look at the options to make that
change, that is if I can keep Edge from beeping at me. However, maybe
some how the change was made, because as I said before, it appears
anyway that my Cortana search takes me to IE, at least that's the way
it appeared to be with my Rio search.

Hope this all makes sense to you, because it barely makes sense to me
.

On 8/7/2016 3:14 PM, Kelly Ford wrote:

There is actually a setting deep in Edge's options that controls what
happens when you search with Cortana in the Anniversary Update. If you open
Edge, and find the More button and then choose settings, followed by View
Advanced Settings you can find this. At that point it is faster to
shift+tab and there is an item that says Optimize Task Bar Search Results
for Screen Readers. If you turn that on, searches such as you've described
will open in Internet Explorer specifically.

its telling you it is not accessible to screen readers, and telling you to

in the search box type in default browser. then you can change it to what

Have any of you had this happen?

I tried twice to run edge, from the taskbar and got a loud alarm sound that
had the rhythm of something like a car or smoke alarm, and it wouldn't stop
until I either powered off the computer or loged off. I couldn't seem to
simply close edge and stop the thing. And, was it loud.

At present my sighted wife isn't available to read the screen to me, and at
the time I had the issue, WE wasn't turned up loud enough for me to be able
to make out what was being said. But I will say that when you hear this
thing, you really want it to stop.

Re: I can't believe it!

2016-08-07 Thread Kim Lingo via Talk
Is the problem with the voice recognition in this app? I have a friend who
has a low-end Android cell phone. He's the guy I go to for computer
problems. It's going to be a while before I go to Windows 10, but he says
the voice recognition in his little hunk-o'-junk phone is better than then
one for Cortana. Hopefully, they'll improve on this feature. Is he in the
minority view, or do other users out there experience this problem with
voice input with Cortana too?

RE: Interesting reaction when I tried to run Edge from the taskbar

2016-08-07 Thread Kelly Ford via Talk
There is actually a setting deep in Edge's options that controls what
happens when you search with Cortana in the Anniversary Update. If you open
Edge, and find the More button and then choose settings, followed by View
Advanced Settings you can find this. At that point it is faster to
shift+tab and there is an item that says Optimize Task Bar Search Results
for Screen Readers. If you turn that on, searches such as you've described
will open in Internet Explorer specifically.

Hello Chris,

In addition to reporting the success, or not, of this method, could you also
let us know if the entire process of upgrade in a Windows 7 Pro environment
to the Anniversary Edition of Windows 10 Pro can be done with Window-Eyes
alone? That is, there is no need to run any other screen reader in order to
complete the process.

I note also on this list that others seem to have used this process with
success; maybe they may be able to answer my question.

?

Using this link, my tablet is in the first reboot. I didn't have any
display error issues.
I downloaded the media creation utility that is 17mb.

I won't be truly happy until it is complete but didn't have any issues up
until the first reboot.

I used the media creation tool when I first installed windows 10, but I

I am old and I just want to push a button and have the products just work.
That is how I design my software and expect companies to do the same but
nope. They always have problems. I don't care if it is Microsofts fault,
WindowEyes fault, nobodys fault - things I pay for should just flat out
work.
Anyway, thanks for your usual professionalism and depth of research,

Did you download the Media Creation tool you posted the url to and how does
that work to download the free upgrade or does it?
Does the Media Creation tool have you enter the url of the free version for
screen reader users or what does the process look or sound like as you
download and install?
I am running W 8.1 currently and sure would like to avoid all the problems
if I can.

it appears that microsoft does not check your computer for a screen reader.
you
have to find this hidden web site and download a file that will allow you to

get the free windows 10 upgrade after july 29

copy and paste the link into your browser if it will not activate because it
is wrapping to the next line.
