Re: Alternative to Eset
I hear Sophos Home works well with window-eyes and is free for up to 10 users. I guess it runs like a web page. there are folks on the blindtech and this list that use it. You have to go to their website to download it. I prefer something that I load to my pc from disk so I chose Vipre. They have US based tech support and will help you with issues. Also, they at least know what screen readers are. The really good deal I got from HSN helped me make my final decision. I hear some jaws and NVDA users have some success using vipre and I have "sighted assistance" if I have issues. One person said it made his fan run alot, but noone else has said that. I have been trying to find an accessible antivirus/security program lately, and this is all I can tell you. hth Brenda On 4/14/2017 4:16 PM, Samuel Wilkins via Talk wrote: Hello everyone, My Eset license is about to expire, and I was wondering if there is a more accessible solution. major issues with Window eyes 9.5.4
Hi Everyone, I am having major issues with the most current version of window eyes. My all in one computer developed some kind of issue and my computer guy had to do a reset to windows 10. Unfortunately this caused anything not Microsoft to be deleted from the computer. When I went to reinstall window eyes again I got several error issues about the program being blocked. I realized the CD I had was only WE 9.5.3. So since I did not have the certificate fix it would not allow me to download WE 9.5.3 My computer guy googled Window eyes and it gave directions to go to AIsquared website and find the certificate fix and down load the program from there. We did this and now I have speech once again. But here are two major issues I am having. In the start options I have window eyes to start at the log in screen and run window eyes after the login screen for all users. The in the after logging inI have chosen run window eyes using the global start up options selected. But what is happening is window eyes will say Window Eyes Treview at the log in screen and then once the desktop is up window eyes does not speak and I have to do a control alt W to get speech. Re: gun shy about new laptop
I am typing this on a 7-year-old Toshiba laptop that cost about $700 at the time. Had to have it repaired once when I messed up the touch strip above the function keys. The technology and features keep changing, so I'm not sure you can generalize about brands very much. I wouldn't get the smallest, thinnest and lightest laptop I could. I probably wouldn't get one designed for gaming, either, which is largley what they talk about in PC World, since luxury computers pay the bills for the subscription magazines like that. I was fortunate to go into a Best Buy store and work with a salesman for more than a half hour on a Saturday morning, starting up Narrator on their demos and seeing how responsive the speech was, what sort of keyboard the laptop had, how many ports and of what type, etc. Lloyd Rasmussen, Kensington, MD http://lras.home.sprynet.com -Original Message- From: Michael Fridey via Talk Sent: Friday, April 14, 2017 12:48 AM To: Van Lant, Robin ; window eyes help list Subject: Re: gun shy about new laptop I agree i brought a new tosheba notebook couple years back and after a week. The primary thing that drew me to it in the store was the keyboard layout of having the 10-key number pad on the right, yet only being a 15 inch screen. What I did not realize until after I got it home and paid money for a tech to come help me set it up was two things. First, it does not have the application key, which I have learned to get around with the Shift F10 keystroke. The bigger problem was the whole thing we've talked about with now having to push the FN key in order to get the function keys to work the way I want. (I had not found someone who was comfortable going into the bios to help me see about changing this.) The biggest problem Is that this function key thing also applies to the Insert key, as it is right next to the F12 key. I've gotten pretty good at using the caps lock key instead, but this requires some real finger gymnastics to activate certain Window Eyes command. Aside from all this, there is also some w e ird clicking thing that the keyboard occasionally does that is annoying. All this to say, it's
