Hi Rod,
Thank you for putting up this link. You're definitely a great source for all
things Window-Eyes related.

Hi everyone,

The link to the ESR version of Firefox which I placed in my DropBox pointed
to the wrong version, not the U.S. English version.
Therefore, anyone who downloaded the file from my DropBox within the last
half and hour should redownload it, since I have replaced it with the
correct one.

Sorry, and all the best,

Rod

Hi Janet,

I understand, and yet it is common knowledge in the AT community that the
ESR version (extended service release) of Firefox is accessible.

You can download it from my DropBox here:

http://bit.ly/2nEnoor

Some people recommend uninstalling your current version of Firefox before
installing it, and yet I have yet to have a problem (and I have done it
several times) installing it right over the current version.

It will automatically make your bookmarks and settings available.

Best,

Rod

Hello everyone,

I’m having a lot of trouble nagivating websites with W10, Chrome, and the
latest WE with the Chrome app. I’ll start reading something, and WE will
just stop reading or it becomes very slow-nearly nonresponsive. Does anyone
out there have any suggestions of things to try or change to improve this?
perhaps I’d be better off with another screen reader? I’d really rather not
use JAWS as I’m not doing anything very complicated any more and wouldn’t
use most of its features.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Janet

there have any suggestions of things to try or change to improve this? perhaps
I’d be better off with another screen reader? I’d really rather not use JAWS as
I’m not doing anything very complicated any more and wouldn’t use most of its
features.

Thanks for any thoughts,

This PC is the root directory for Windows Explorer as we've always
known it. Quick Access is a directory of shortcuts recent files and
folders where you can use first letter navigation as in any list
view. However, Quick Access is read only, so you can't delete
shortcuts directly from it. However,

when you delete the actual folders or files, their shortcuts will
disappear from Quick Access. I use Quick Access a lot to open recent
files and folders because it saves me many navigation steps. Also, in
the File and Folder Options dialogue, you can set File Explorer to
open either in This PC or Quick Settings. I tend to like it opening
to This PC, but if you press home in that tree view, Quick Access is
always at the top anyway.

I find the pc setting works best for me.
I press windows key e, then alt up-arrow and can arrow down to PC and press
enter and then arrow down to what I want. I find this works particularly
well when I want to access my USB or DVD drives.

I have one more question about file explorer. There are two settings, one is
quick access, and the other is this pc. Which one functions more like the
old windows explorer? If neither does, then what is the difference between
the two, and which is more speech friendly? Thank you much.

RE: quick access or this pc

2018-02-02 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Butch,

I believe that the prhrase "quick access" is something you hear as you navigate
Windows folders, but I ignore it.
The This PC icon is where I always go to when I want to review all my drives
and then open the root folder of a particular drive by selecting one and
pressing Enter.
However, please note that, as I suggested you would configure one of your
folders and then make the changes global in Folder options, the display of your
drives in This PC is a separate window altogether, and you'll have to configure
it in the same way as I described before.
Otherwise, the names of the drives are not accessible, at least with
Window-Eyes, which is all I use.

Best,

Rod
