If you have Wordpad on your system, you should be able to open docs with

Hi Janet,

I understand, and yet it is common knowledge in the AT community that the
ESR version (extended service release) of Firefox is accessible.
You can download it from my DropBox here:

http://bit.ly/2nEnoor

Some people recommend uninstalling your current version of Firefox before
installing it, and yet I have yet to have a problem (and I have done it
several times) installing it right over the current version.
It will automatically make your bookmarks and settings available.

Best,

Hello everyone,

I’m having a lot of trouble nagivating websites with W10, Chrome, and the
latest WE with the Chrome app. I’ll start reading something, and WE will
just stop reading or it becomes very slow-nearly nonresponsive. Does anyone
out there have any suggestions of things to try or change to improve this?
perhaps I’d be better off with another screen reader? I’d really rather not
use JAWS as I’m not doing anything very complicated any more and wouldn’t
use most of its features.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Janet

2018-02-06 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Janet,

Yes, this version of Firefox is self-contained, requiring no other version of
Firefox in order to run.
Also, the Firefox Enhanced app should already be installed on your system with
Window-Eyes, and, if you are prompted to update it, you can do so in order to
bring it up to date with the version on App Central.

Hi Butch,

The ESR version of Firefox, available from the DropBox link I have posted, is a
different one from the one which is undergoing changes which have made it
inaccessible.
I have allowed the ESR version to update several times over the past months,
and it remains accessible.
You should allow it to update itself as well in order to install security
updates.
The developer promises to continue to support it for a while at least.

Hi Peter,
I just took another look at the address bar because, as I said, I just
Alt-D, Control-C, F6. What I realized is that the cursor is always at
the end of the line. Once I realized that arrowing back always works.
Then I went to my GMail account and logged in. Arrowing worked there as
well.
Try the following in IE.
Alt-T Tools.
O Internet options.
Shift-Tab up to the General tab and arrow over to Advanced.
Tab once to Accelerated graphics.
Arrow down once to Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering and
press space to check it and turn it on if it's off.
Tab down to the Apply button and press space.
Close and reopen IE.
Hth,
Tom

correctly, I have to type it in NotePad and then copy and paste it into

Peter,
:I've always done the same, just with Alt-D to go to the address bar and
then F6 to return to the page, and it works fine. I can't read the text
immediately with the arrows because it's all selected by default. So I
just press Control-C to copy it, which is the only reason I'm going
there anyway. But if I arrow back and forth a bit it will start reading
after IE catches up and deselects the URL.
For what it's worth, this is on Windows 10.

Hi Peter,

I just confirmed it again, and it seems to download fine for me.

Best,

Rod

Hello Rod,

I tried to download this file from your Dropbox but the download could not
be completed. Could you please put it in you Dropbox again?

Thanks.

Best,

Rod

Hi Rod,
Sorry for the lack of clarity. I'm using Windows 10 with Chrome as my
browser. It was my understanding that Firefox wasn't accessible with WE?

Hi Janet,

I'm not sure what W10 Chrhome is and by the Chrome app I assume you mean the
Chrome browser?
I do all browsing with Firefox 52.6 ESR and the current Window-Eyes and am
having no problems.

Best,

Rod

Hello everyone,

I’m having a lot of trouble nagivating websites with W10, Chrome, and the
latest WE with the Chrome app. I’ll start reading something, and WE will
just stop reading or it becomes very slow-nearly nonresponsive. Does anyone
out there have any suggestions of things to try or change to improve this?
perhaps I’d be better off with another screen reader? I’d really rather not
use JAWS as I’m not doing anything very complicated any more and wouldn’t
use most of its features.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Janet
