Re: question about window-eyes
Sometimes various programs temporarily grab the focus while they are updating, then relinquish it and redraw the part of the screen where you have been working. Also, this verbiage could be related to where the mouse pointer is located on the screen. In addition to all that, sometimes I hear something that I placed on the clipboard a considerable time earlier, and it is not related to what I am doing at the moment. RE: Help with Jaws, please!
Paulette, As others have said, your Microsoft commands will work as they always did. If you have access to Bookshare, there is a book about Windows 10, and I think Bard has it too. These may not be the issues in the way you listed them, but here are a few helpful hints, I hope. You can use control-f to search for text in Word, but with JAWS, I find their search command works more reliably. As you may remember, on the internet, their search command is control-f, with repeat find, f3. But in Word, the JAWS find command is insert-control-f, with the repeat find insert-f3. JAWS finds the text right away and you are still in the text of your document, so you don't have to press escape to close the search. You can use Word to search for your documents. I'm using Word 2010. I press control-o and shift-tab back twice and I'm in the list of folders in Documents. You can also just access your documents through File Explorer, Windows key-e, and press enter to open the file. Word 2016 and 365 may be slightly different. I will write more later if that would help. Why on earth I had to hear shell in order to do this, I have no idea. Also, I still can't stop Jaws from going into 40 minute mode. It is quite frustrating. Also, I found that I am unable to search a document for a word. I tried searching for the word, mode, and I was able to do it once by using control f, but after using it one time, when I tried to search using the exact same key strokes again, it wouldn't search. Subject: RE: Help with Jaws, please! Paulette, when it comes to Word and Jaws, you should be using the standard Windows command you already know. Example, Ctrl-O brings up the Open dialogue and you can type in the name of whichever file you wish to open. First letter navigation should also be possible once the Open dialogue is invoked. In essence, you do not need a specialised Jaws keystroke to find stuff in Word. Oh well, I don't use whatever keystrokes Window-Eyes scripted for Word; I just use what Windows has to offer me and it works like a charm. Also, you can press the Windows key to launch the Search Edit Box. Here, type "documents" without the quotes of course. Once Documents has focus, press and you can use FIRST LETTER navigation to find your file. once you find the file you wish to open, press and, if it's a Word file, the file will open in Word. To read E-mail, launch your mail reader--Outlook, or whatever E-mail client you use. Press on the message you wish to read. Sometimes, reading may not begin from the top. In that instance, press ctrl-home to get to the top, then use Insert-Down Arrow to read your mail. You can customize how you want stuff done when in the mail reader. Press Insert-V, go through the various list of customisations and select the ones that meet your needs. Be patient as you customise the look and feel for mail reading purposes. Remember to save your settings when done! When you talk about control panel analogous to that of Window-Eyes, what exactly are you trying to accomplish in Jaws? Jaws's approach is quite different from that of GW Micro's Window-Eyes! Example: Insert-J will put you in the Jaws Context Menu and you can perform some customisations here using your up and down arrow keys to go through the list of what's possible and following the prompts. I can't fathom why Jaws would keep running in 40-minute mode when you have already entered an authorization code. For that one, consider giving V F O or whatever name it goes by a call. Hmm, I'm not sure I'll consider joining the Jaws mailing list. For one thing, their moderators are not as tolerant as this list is. I'd say ask your questions here and I believe that the brilliant minds here will step up to the plate. I don't recall the Jaws users mailing list subscription info, I do know, however, that the list is on groups.io. If you type Jaws Users Mailing List into Google to perform a search, quite a few of them should come up fast and furious. I trust the foregoing helps some; others will no doubt chip
RE: Help with Jaws, please!
Paulette, as a new Jaws user, I'm not to best to help you but a tip I can pass on in respect of searching within word is that it is simpler to use the search and replace command rather than the "find" command. So, instead of using control for "find", use control H, which is the shortcut for "search and replace". This means that if you want to repeat the search, you just shift tab twice, or maybe three times, and press enter and it rtepeats the "find". I don't recognise many of the problems you are experiencing, which is why I have not responded and, as a new Windows 10, Office 365 and Jaws user, I'm still on a stepp learning curve myself. All I can say is that all your Microsoft commands should operate as they used to Window-eyes. So, when you want to open a document you have created, you should be able to open Word, press control o for open and then tab twice to see all your recently opened documents. I am wondering if you too have recently updated to Windows 10? I have also found the short tutorial designed for Window-eyes users migrating to Jaws very helpful. muysebut when I havyou are probably better some tips Alison -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+chrisalismay=gmail@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Paulette Vickery via Talk Sent: 19 February 2018 02:06 To: ukekearu...@valtdnet.com; 'Window-Eyes Discussion List'Cc: Paulette Vickery Subject: RE: Help with Jaws, please!
