RE: Keys Echoing Incorrectly

2018-05-14 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Rod,

Thanks. I have no problems changing the Key echo settings. It is the behavior
of the key echo that I am dealing with. At times, and always in IE, when
pressing any key, it will echo another key while the output is correct. I can
press any key several times and get a different key announcement each time.
Even shortcut keys behave differently. I cannot press 'E' to go to an edit
box, or 'H' for headings and so on. It has gotten so annoying that I stopped
using Win-Eyes on my desktop.

Subject: RE: Keys Echoing Incorrectly

Hi David,

The setting of key echo can be changed through repeated presses of the hot key
Insert-2, and 2 is that found above the letter w, well, at least above the
letters area of your keyboard.
As you repeatedly press this hot key, you rotate through the various settings
for key echo, and, the setting wraps around infinitely.
When Window-Eyes is first installed, it is set as follows:
Keyboard voice on with characters
Now, I assume that when you say you set it to words, you simply changed it to
the next setting, namely:
Keyboard voice on with words
I would like to point out, though, that, if you wish to hear words articulated
after typing them, and if you also wish the individual keystrokes echoed when
you press them, then, and this would be the best experience on the desktop as
well, you should set it to:
Keyboard voice on with characters and words
If you also want numbers echoed as you type, then the next setting would be
good, as well, namely:
Keyboard voice on with characters, words and numbers
Once you set it the way you like it, return to the Window-Eyes control panel to
save your setting.
Note also that the setting you choose may only be active for the current set
file, and this depends on the setting of the Scope button within the Keyboard,
Voice node.
If you navigate to this node, and tab to that button, on new installations of
Window-Eyes, it will be set to Global, and this is true of many settings of
Window-Eyes.
.It is best to leave it this way.
Anyway, I hope this helps a bit.

Best,

Rod

I switch to echo words. When doing a Google search in IE, it didn't speak
anything after typing a word and pressing the space bar. Although, in MS Word,
it spoke everything. So, I switched back to echo characters, and all keys
echoed correctly. Then going to the desktop, the keys started echoing
different letters/numbers again. Key echo works fine then, for no apparent
reason, it starts this behavior.

I have un-installed and re-installed Window-Eyes and it still behaves this way.
NVDA does not have a problem. I have also tried another keyboard(not
wireless).
