Also, one thing to note
Make sure verbosity/office/excel/cell information/speak position is set to if 
no header defined.
There is always and never as options.

Hi Many:
Instead of starting on cell a1, you should start on the first column of the row 
where your column headings are located.  For instance, if your headings are on 
row 3, you go to cell 3,and set up the speaking of headings by pressing 
shift-alt-h, then follow the dialog as you have done.

I start by being on cell a1 which  has the heading symbol.
one of the settings gives a1 to j41
which I tried, but did not work
I changed  the setting
a1 to j1 and set column headings only and still headings are not given 
just the cell a1 etcc

I guess I will call gwmicro tomorrow for help.

Have you try to adjust the parameter for the following and see if it works:
1.  region to use
2.  region type

Another thing to consider is where your cursor is when you issue the

which is what I used (I miss typed)
However, the column headers are not being announced, after setting it to 
announce headers.

It just announces the cell address.Pressing arrow right will give b1 etc.
