Yours does. Some do not. Microsoft disability support and GW have verified this is the case. -Original Message- From: net bat [mailto:net...@comcast.net] Sent: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 1:36 PM To: richard.pe...@earthlink.net; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: Synthesizer or Speech Card Behavior on Asus Zenbook my win10 has these options. in the sounds go to playback device, to your default device. speakers, hdmi, usb sound card etc. click on properties. there should be a control tab for enhancements. tab and check turn off all sound effects. then click ok to get out of the sound program. one problem i have is the enhancements are turned back on if you make changes to the equalizer ifyou have one in the control panel. this is in my control panel and real tec controls. if i make changes to treble bass or the sound effects the enhancements are turned back on again. -Original Message- From: Richard Petty via Talk Sent: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 11:19 AM To: 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: RE: Synthesizer or Speech Card Behavior on Asus Zenbook With help from Rod Hutton I found a work-around for this problem and thought it would be useful for others to know of the solution. Chris from GW advised that changing the audio settings to disable all audio enhancements would solve the problem; however, the Conexant audio device did not have an option to disable audio enhancements, at least not in Windows 10. Rod Hutton suggested attaching a pair of USB speakers to the computer. I found a pair of Logitech S150 USB Speakers on Amazon. They're not just powered through the USB port, the audio can also be directed through the USB port. In my situation this resolved the problem. I connected the speakers, went to audio settings, selected Speakers USB Audio as the audio device, Selected configure to make those settings and then Properties. Under properties for the USB device I found a Disable Audio Enhancements checkbox. (That's the checkbox that's not present for the computer's internal audio card.) I unchecked it. Then I went into Window-Eyes, went to Devices, and for the Eloquence synthesizer I selected the USB audio device. Voila! Usable audio. I'm pleased I can now use the computer. The speakers aren't wonderful, but they cost all of $12. RE: Synthesizer or Speech Card Behavior on Asus Zenbook
Thanks, but I can say with certainty that on my computer the "disable audio enhancements" checkbox is not present. I have previously followed the steps you outlined. In addition, in the early stages of help from Microsoft, they verified that this is the case. You have given me very helpful information, though. This now seems as if this is less likely a Windows 10 issue than a Conexant driver issue. Unless there's a workaround, I may be selling the Zenbook with its Conexant driver and looking for something else. A costly and time-consuming learning experience. -Original Message- From: Rod Hutton [mailto:rod_hut...@hotmail.com] Sent: Saturday, August 22, 2015 9:38 AM To: richard.pe...@earthlink.net; 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: RE: Synthesizer or Speech Card Behavior on Asus Zenbook Hi Richard, I can state categorically that the Property sheet for my sound card on my Windows 10 system has an enhancements tab, and, within it, a check box for enabling or disabling audio enhancements. RE: Synthesizer or Speech Card Behavior on Asus Zenbook
I understand disabling speech enhancements should solve this. I spoke to Microsoft's accessibility line this afternoon. The person I spoke to said the "Disable all enhancements" option is no longer available in Windows 10. He did escalate my issue, so I may know more in the next four or five days. It would be interesting to know if anyone does find the disable enhancements option in Windows 10. -Original Message- From: Richard Petty [mailto:richard.pe...@earthlink.net] Sent: Thursday, August 06, 2015 8:59 AM To: 'Window-Eyes Discussion List'; 'Marc Solomon'; 'Christopher-Mark Gilland'; 'William Vandervest' Subject: Synthesizer or Speech Card Behavior on Asus Zenbook I've just purchased a Asus Zenbook notebook, installed Windows 10 and WE 9.2. In all menus and all programs, words are voiced indistinctly. Almost always the first letter is either not spoken or spoken at a lower volume level with a small pop sound. If this can't be changed, it will be hard to work with. Has anyone had this experience and have you found a workaround?
