window-eyes current status.

2016-06-18 Thread Micallef Michael at FITA via Talk
HI Guys,

I have this to say, first poor new window-eyes users who just invest their
money into a new copy of WE unless they do not get the WE4Office for free, what
compensation they will get I hope that nobody is expect them to content
themselves with perhaps 10% ridiculous discount on a new copy of JAWS.

Existent users like mine who now are already familiar with WE, speaking for
myself, I'm now already 52 years old and after I spent a lot of energy to learn
and refine my skills in using window-eyes during these past 12 years, to say
the truth I do not have the energy to invest in a new learning curve of a new
screen reader who happens to be lucky enough to manage to swallow window-eyes.

Last GW micro should open their mouths and tell us the loyal WE users, what
will be our options in confront to the freedomscientific company. After all if
my memory serves me well some five years ago when there were rumors that
gw-micro was going to be sold to someone gw-micro promptly stated that was
never to be happen. So now after the seas are calm and quiet, the inevitable
happens.

Thank you,

Oh, all this worrying over something you can't control! You

Like lets write a thousand more emails, maybe they'll change their
minds, VFO will completely vanish and we'll go back to how it was.
Sorry y'all not happening. The deal is done. Nothing will happen for 6
months, if at all. None of us knows. It's entirely possible that
nothing will happen and all these emails would've been for nothing. Sit
back, relax and let these guys do their jobs. As for microsoft, it has
Narrator. It's getting better but still not a replacement for the

RE: window-eyes current status.

2016-06-20 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
The problem with that is if customers don't purchase new releases, there will
not be a Window-Eyes. I decided soon after its release that Window-Eyes for
Office had two conflicting objectives. The first being to spread access to a
high quality screen reader to people who could not afford such, but the second
was to admit that on-going development of Window-eyes was/is under severe
pressure.

If people decide to stay with window-Eyes for Office at any price, and as
Window-eyes development stalls, you are then locked into legacy products.
There is no doubt that Windows will under-go substantial change and there will
be a screen reader of some sort. If it is a user pays for screen reader,
versus no screen reader because the free one will not function - then what
happens?

Vaughan.

Which is why I've always planned to use the Office version only until I
could save up to buy a new SMA. That's likely to take a few months. I also
have to save up for an updated version of Office since my copy of WE is
apparently not speaking to my copy of Office, at least not in the main
