Feel free to revert my edits as well, I went there to see what had
happened, not knowing I actually did any changes.

I reverted from Dmitry to AkMeR to see what had been lost (using
potlatch), but expected to acknowledge the revert before it took place.

I think I may have done this on 3-4 ways, and tried to undo my changes
afterwards.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

[OSM-talk] [Fwd: [tagging] Feature Proposal - Voting - (ice rink)]

2008-09-14 Thread Mathieu Clément

--- Begin Message ---

Hi all fellow OSM contributors and members,

2 weeks ago, I proposed the "ice rink" or simply "rink" feature, because
I saw that there was nothing to tag and show these building (which can
be "covered", like in a stadium or just simple not covered temporarly
(but every year) rinks you can found in moutain villages in winter.
I also searched something to tag a lake which is icing in winter. The
reason is that at that moment, you can walk and "ice-skate" on it, but
in some cases you can't do both, so we need 2 tags for this.
I hope what I say doesn't amaze you, because there is a lake, 20 km from
my house, where airplanes land and take off during two weeks!

So, please take a look at the
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Proposed_features/Ice_rink page,
and help me answer my questions about "ice-skatable" lakes.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Mathieu Clément

I was just thinking about a similar issue, but with speed limits. How do
you tag the fact that there is no speed limit sign on a road (i.e. the
road has the default speed limit.

Surely I could tag with that default speed limit, but suppose the
government changes that default speed limit, I can no longer
distinguish between roads that had a speed limit sign and those without
it so I cannot automatically fix all the speed limits that have
changed. (Note that this is not that exotic, our government is thinking
about lowering default maximum speed, and it has happened in the past
already). I could also leave out the maxspeed tag, but then we risk
that several people will go to the street to look for it, just like
when there's no name for the road.

I guess there are more issues like this where a feature is absent, and
where we need some way to tag this as absent. A noname=yes tag works ok
for names, but not for anything else, so we need something more
flexible. Perhaps add a "n/a" value to the tags?

Greetings
Ben

It would really be very easy to add a google map on the page below the
photo with a push-pin in the centre on the location you were at when the
photo was taken. You'd need about a dozen lines of Javascript.

It would also be easy to provide a link to the CanalPlanAC gazetteer for
the nearest page. If you are__

Franc,

That would be great. Just stick it onto a webserver somewhere and update
the wikipage to point to it. Alternatively, stick it on the wiki in a
page of it's own :-)

So what's the conclusion here? Am I in a position where half of the
project will vote against if I propose the left:mooring=24h method, and
the other half will vote against if I propose the add-a-separate-way method?

You're welcome :-) I recently made a rerun of the cyclemap SOTM
presentation for a Cartography conference, and aside from customising
for a different audience, I realised that almost all of the
illustrations needed redoing since everything changed so much in the
last two months alone! Now if everyone would stop working on OSM for a
few months so that I can reuse those presentation slides a few more
times

Awesome. And the next time someone complains that OSM is unusable
because it's not complete or accurate, we can point out that map.
Having spent eight years of my life at Imperial College, I know that
Princes Gardens (directly under the letters "RGS-IBG") is a through
road... But even that obvious a problem that close to the venue
doesn't detract from how useful the map is nonetheless.
