[OSM-talk] Edit review: intermittent waters

2012-06-02 Thread LM_1
Hi,
I would like to support two ideas that appeared in this thread:
1. Peter Wendorff's about documenting discouraged/old tagging schemes
in wiki as such - with link to correct schemes.
2. Worst Fixers general idea of merging multiple tags describing the
same thing into one (possibly globally). That is if they really mean
the same.

Welcome to OSM.

You might be better off asking the question on the newbies mailing list,
but I'll try to help.

OSM gives you the ability to convert traces you made into streets and
paths. You can do this through Potlatch on your PC. With Potlatch you can
upload your traces you made with your phone. Using those traces you can
create ways. The wiki has tutorials to help you get started. If you use
another persons gpx traces, make sure that you have the right to map those
traces into OSM. Again, the wiki can help you understand what you can and
can't add.

BTW, I use OSMTracker for Android to capture my gpx tracks and Mapzen POI
Collector to capture points of interest.

Good luck,
Clifford

[OSM-talk] gps traces on android

2012-06-02 Thread Renato
Hello, I'm very new to OSM and not sure if this is the best place to
ask, so sorry if I'm off topic.

I'd like to view pubblic gps traces on my android phone, and possibly
record some new ones with its gps... is it possible?

So far I've found out Androzic which is nice, and I can view Mapnik,
however it's not clear to me if I can view public gps traces from it...

Also, how do I view public gps traces them online/from the pc? I've
found route converter but I seem to understand you have to manually
download a gps trace in order to see it... I'd like for it to download
automatically all the traces in a certain area and display them on the
map.

thanks for any help,
renato

Re: [OSM-talk] Changing capitalization (Lima)

2012-06-02 Thread john whelan
Igor added a export-tag command to Maperitive that creates a local CSV file
that can be brought into a spreadsheet. You need a local copy of the .OSM
file or possibly .pbf version should work as well. It's very useful for
spotting tags that are misspelt. Once there you can concat red tape to
create xml commands to get JOSM to upload the changes. I've a couple of
sample VB programs that run done a local file and make changes, a sort of
off line bot if you like but I wouldn't like them to escape into general
use there are too many bots out there at the moment.
