[OSM-talk] House numbers

2012-12-21 Thread Roland Olbricht
Dear all,

house numbers are one of the areas where in OSM a lot of things are still to
do even in well mapped regions. To support mapping efforts, there are two new
tools available

http://overpass-api.de/api/hausnummern

shows the already existing house numbers. This allows to plan the next mapping
tour more centered around poorly covered regions. These are shown on zoom
levels 16 to 18. For example a mixed situation in the potential SoTM city
Birmingham:

http://overpass-
api.de/api/hausnummern?zoom=16&lat=52.48185&lon=-1.91794&layers=BT

(link in one line)

http://qa.poole.ch/

shows buildings that don't have a house number. This is helpful to spot
forgotten addresses. The same part of Birmingham:

http://qa.poole.ch/?zoom=16&lat=52.48185&lon=-1.91794&layers=FTB0

Cheers and happy mapping,

Roland

Or at least reserve it for more extreme cases than that...e±10 would be a
safer choice. But probably not for lat/long...

There are no prizes for guessing why this node caused an interpretation
error.

http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/241783950

If there's a way of stopping the API from storing/returning very small
numbers in scientific notation, I'm sure it'll save someone (else) some
heartache in future.

But in the mean time, be warned.
