Re: [OSM-talk] Spoken street names
I have tried OsmAnd and Magic Earth on Android and Magic Earth on IOs and they seem to work well, althouth Magic Earth did some crazy routing. I will compare the same route on OsmAnd Magic Earth and Garmin (OSM maps) and OsmR to see if it is a data problem or routing issue. I still haven't got Navmii to use TTS on Windows-phone but have contacted the vendor. I tried Mapfactor on windows-phone but couldn't get TTS to work. - will try again tonight on windows-phone and android. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
Re: [OSM-talk] Spoken street names
There is also Mapfactor Navigator [1], they do have a free version as well.I didn't like their "announcements" for highway exists as much as OsmAnd's. m [1] https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&hl=en p.s. I find spoken street names not so interesting. In Belgium (and many countries around it) the street names are only indicated within the street itself, so after you made the turn. It would be better if the destination tags where spoken all the time, not only on higways/motorways. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Tim Watterss wrote:> with Ben Dalton, I'm happy to properly launch The New Cloud Atlas > project at http://newcloudatlas.org Interesting tool. Searching for Data Centers in OSM, I observed inconsistencies with building=[industrial, commerce, office] and no tag specific the Data centers. I myself have added a Data center in the past but did not find an appropriate tag to describe it. To facilitate collaboration, I suggest that you provide tags for each feature and point to relevant wiki pages. The site has a tweaked iD editor with custom telecoms presets, it creates a couple of map tilesets showing these features from OSM, with clickable features on the map. We encourage you to map your local data centres, street cabinets, telephone exchanges, telephone poles, manhole covers and more! Telecoms features in OSM are not consistently mapped with regards to each other which could provide an opportunity for some consolidation or making new taxonomies. I've created WikiProject Telecoms to help with this tagging discussion: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Telecoms Cheers and I look forward to your comments! Re: [OSM-talk] The New Cloud Atlas - Mapping Physical Infrastructure of the Internet with OSM
Hi Tim, This is really impressive, can't wait to test this special instance of iD :) The road you went along since early 2015 brings a lot of positive things Telecom tags consistency needs to be tidier, especially for towers, masts, poles or whatever. Your tools may help a lot to do so and find missing objects. 2016-08-17 19:22 GMT+02:00 Florian Lohoff : > > For Germany all phone exchanges from Deutsche Telekom have been imported > some time ago but you dont seem to show them. > > This is an example for Exchange "ONKZ 5241 ASB 4": > > https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/151237643 I remember of a talk about man_made=MDF and imho it doesn't sound to be the best solution. Because main distribution frame is only a particular component inside a whole central office. http://www.infos-reseaux.com/photos/image.php?id=190 MDF can be mapped with dedicated features if mappers know exactly where they are in (sometimes) big buildings. The example you show is a building hosting many different kind of devices and equipment and we'd better call them "central office". telecom=central_office and building=yes (at least). That's the point of this proposal http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Telecom_local_loop All the best François ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Re: [OSM-talk] Spoken street names
I've already tried Navmii on my windows phone. I like it a lot but it doesn't do TTS (Spoken Street names) - as far as I can tell. I've tried scout on my iPhone (a few years ago - overseas) . From memory, it did TTS but let itself down in late turn announcements. Also you can't purchase the software and I'm not interested in renting it. Osmand only seems to work on Android so I'll have to go out and buy a cheap android phone tomorrow. This is all so I can recommend OSM to others. For myself, when driving I use a garmin device with routable OSM maps from openmapchest and of course the garmins all have TTS. When walking I don't require TTS so any software is good enough. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
