Re: [OSM-talk] Export Tool Community Chat | 30th March

2017-03-29 Thread Mhairi O'Hara
Hey Dave,

And thank you for responding Blake. I understand that it can be a little
difficult to be involved in many different forms of communication, but we
have found that Slack is the most efficient tool for our purposes regarding
the Export Tool development.

It would be great if you could join the dedicated channel, not only for the
allocated community chat but for the lifespan of the development. And as
Blake mentioned, you will be able to go back and read over everything that
has been discussed prior to signing up. Hope to see you there!

Kind regards,

Mhairi

Re: [OSM-talk] New Overpass API v0.7.54 version

2017-03-29 Thread mmd
Hi,

your one-stop-shop wiki page for Overpass API examples has a few new
queries highlighting some recent 0.7.54 additions:

- Non-matching addr:postcode inside multiple postal code boundaries
- Adding Georeference details to village nodes
- Find duplicate nodes
- Find multipolygons with more than one outer way member
- Find relations with identical wikidata tags

See https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Overpass_API/Overpass_API_by_Example

This should give you some more ideas what is possible today in addition
to what Roland already covered in his blog series.

The generalized version for "Find << n >> adjacent ways for a given
way", would also be a good fit for 0.7.54. As it still depends on a new
language element 'complete', that#s a bit of a preview only at this time:

- "Find << n >> adjacent ways" : http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/nTx

Have fun... and be sure to add your own cool examples to the Wiki page!

Cheers
mmd

Hello all,

We’ve been working on a new data type that allows you to link to the
*geographical
shapes* that are now stored on Commons. This data type will be deployed on
Wikidata on *April 17th*.

This data type refers to the geographical shapes that are enabled on
Wikimedia Commons since the beginning of this year. Here you can find more
information about this .

The property creators will be able to create properties with this geoshape
data type by selecting “Geographical shape” in the data type list.

When the property is created, you can use it in statements, and when
filling the value, if you start typing a string, you can choose the name of
a geoshape in the list of what exists on Commons.

[image: Screenshot test geoshape in Wikidata.png]

One thing to note: We currently do not export statements that use this
datatype to RDF. They can therefore not be queried in the Wikidata Query
Service. The reason is that we are still waiting for geoshapes to get
stable URIs. This is handled in this ticket
.

Before the deployment, you can test it on http://test.wikidata.org (see for
example the property “geotest” on Q22 ).
If you have any question, feel free to ask!

Cheers,

Re: [OSM-talk] Export Tool Community Chat | 30th March

2017-03-29 Thread Blake Girardot HOT/OSM
Hi,

I can't speak for Mhairi, but HOT's slack channel is open, retains a record
of the conversation, and while this specific discussion is time boxed,
discussion takes place continually among the interested parties and
developers asynchronously.

An email list is not the same as a real time text chat, Q and A, which is
what this is.

Cheers,
blake
