[OSM-talk] Streetcomplete

2017-03-16 Thread Alert Bouterse
Hi everyone,

Since I am daily on the street for work. I improve the maps, using
Streetcomplete. Last week, I needed to give my mobile a factory reset.
Since then, the app is giving an error, getting the autorisation from osm:
"All listed Permissions need to be granted."
If I check in osm it states that Streetcomplete is autorised. Enyone a clue
what might be the problem and solution?

I agree for improvements, but here you can discuss the sense or nonsense of
a feature in an app. The Github is not the place for a discussion. I think,
you can ask yourself why you need to add surface to a street. For the UK
you can count that streets are paved, but that doesn't count for a lot of
countries.

I am not sure, since I didn't build the app, but my experience is that it
download the quests of the direct area in a range of 1 km or so, witch
means, you need a working data connection, be it WiFi or 3/4G. The upload
of your answers will happen when you get a data connection, until then it
will be stored.

It feels like the map orients itself to urban mapping too much. My
stereo type is that if an urbanite runs into a dirt road they usually tag
it as a track. I laughed when I came a cross dirt road that was silky
smooth and could comfortably fit three semi-tractor trailers as a
highway=track. Or there is the well maintained AZ 88[1] that was downgraded
to unclassified from tertiary[2] presumably because the road is unpaved.
There are mile markers, a state ref number, and at least one hotel.

I've used a number of these phone applications. Each has their
strengths and weaknesses. Pick one or more to meet your mapping needs. In
the case of StreetComplete I thought that the whole point of the
application was to read OSM data; ask a few questions; and change the map.
There's another weakness of the application. Every location is not covered
 by cellular networks.

[OSM-talk] Streetview

2019-01-06 Thread Alert Bouterse
Dear Friends,

I know that it is not allowed to use Google Maps to "copy" streetnames, but
my question is: is it allowed to use Google streetview to check streetnames
by checking the photo's for streetname signs? That way I am not just
copying but do a kind of survey through picture material. What are your
ideas about this?
